Fair enough, but that is exactly what was said when HD hit the scene and then again with 1080p (full HD!!!!111!) Prices will come down - in fact they already have. My parents bought a passive 3D TV but mostly just because it was a cheaper, decent LCD. (Vizio 120hz, 42" for $600). I paid $800 for a 32" off-brand bottom of the line LCD back in 05! D:

For Microsoft supposedly not thinking much of 3D, this seems a lot like backpedaling to me. First Gears 3 and now this (I know Gears is developed by Epic but it's still published by Microsoft).

@squallgengar How is it backpedaling? It doesn't effect the game in any negative way.

I never said it did. It's just that they had such a strong "we don't see the point of 3D" stance and now 3D is going to be in two of its next biggest exclusive releases. Left hand's not talking to the right.

There's 1 actual MS developed game with 3D in it, that's not backtracking on what they said.

@BLipp18

Because 1 HD remake vs the countless HD remakes that sony has done totally means they've gone back on their word.

Is gaming in 3D good?
How would you compare it to movies in 3D?

I saw one movie in 3D, and that was Thor. I didn't feel like it added anything but felt a little distracting and dark, and haven't seen a 3D movie since.

@Jenks

Pretty good actually. Thor was never filmed in 3D (it was converted in post), so that's a bad example, but even in the best 3D movie, the effect can be pretty subtle because they have to accommodate all the different screen sizes.

In games, usually, you can tune the effect in for your own personal tastes and screen size, which usually gives you a much better 3D effect.

I personally like playing games with it on (I bought a 3DTV almost exclusively for games), but I could totally understand why some people dislike it.

@Jenks

For me, most 3D movies have an average 3D effect, but a few have an excellent effect, like avatar, and many of those animated kids movies.

For games, using the 2D to 3D converter on my tv, the effect is very good, but there are some games like GT5, which are excellent in 3D, because the devs put in the extra effort to make it kick ass in 3D.

Overall, you can't go wrong with 3D gaming. Make sure you get a good 3Dtv, monitor, or projector, because a crappy will ruin your experience (excessive crosstalk, ghosting, motion blur, etc.), and you might turn into a 3D hater.

Simply put; there is no more 'immersive' way to play games than in 3D (so far). I have an older 3D projector and play PC games in 3D and it made spectacularly mediocre games like Avatar (the movie game) and Tron Legacy pretty damn interesting to play.

oh so wrong. L2 use custom gaming settings for reduced lag input and glorious 3d effect with keeping a fantastic 2d picture.

@(Unverified) not wrong at all. I do use custom settings for my games, and I have even used the game mode it has on it, but it is still noticeable. Much more noticeable than on any tv I have played on before.

And every tv I got from them had a defect (I had 4 replacements and gave up). Every set had at least one dead pixel, and most had other problems as well.

To each their own, but I have to disagree about Samsung tv's being bad for gaming. I own 2 Samsung 3D plasmas, and they are both wonderful for gaming as well as movies.

@(Unverified) I actually forgot to specify. I have an LED-LCD Samsung. But pretty much all plasmas have no input lag. I am just afraid to get one because I play games way too much and will always have a fear of image retention =[

I don't blame you for your hesitancy in the slightest. Image retention is always a potential issue, but with the technology used today in most plasma sets it is not nearly as pervasive and permanent as it used to be.
