- GameTrailers (8.5/10): "Despite the bugs and quirks, Madden NFL 12 still manages to play a convincing game of pigskin. Your tolerance for the gaffes will be directly proportional to how much you have on the line in each game. It doesn't always function realistically, but we like the idea behind dynamic player performance."
- IGN (8.0/10): "If you're worried that EA has fumbled among the rough and tumble of sports politics, relax. Madden NFL 12 is a solid, tighter football game, even though it's a largely similar one."
- Game Informer (7.5/10): "Like a desperate team that has stocked up on high-profile free agents thinking it's on the cusp of a championship, Madden NFL 12 looks good in practice, but where it counts it's a jumbled mess of frustration, unmet expectations, and sloppy play ... Past Maddens either delivered new features or fixed old problems, but this year you get neither. In too many instances Madden 12 takes you down promising paths that only lead to dead ends.
Metareview: Madden NFL 12

You already know how we feel about Madden NFL 12. But did the rest of the gaming press feel the same way about this year's virtual tailgaiting-enabler as our reviewer did? In short: kinda.

Game informers snippet got it right. Still gave it a score too high though....

It's surprising that a game that is "largely similar" every year constantly gets decent scores, considering a sequel to a regular game, that is similar and hardly unchanged, gets a bad score. Sequels get more time but even Maddens over a couple years don't change that much. I don't mind Madden. I've purchased my share, but now you can almost guess the score of a Madden game, regardless of what was added to it.

CoD gets good scores since MW
GoW hasn't changed that much
same goes for many other games
if something is good/decent, why should they give a bad rating? it's not like they don't write in their reviews, that this is pretty much the same game as last years version.
oh, i forgot: some people are to lazy to read reviews

CoD is in the same boat, with recent installments being significantly worse (Black Ops is a joke). GoW at least has a campaign with a solid story that differs from game to game.
Madden, and most all EA sports games for that matter are formulaic rehashes and nothing more. Its simply an excuse to keep poor consumers paying $60 for what should really be nothing more than DLC roster updates.

This is an interesting match-up.
The way things are looking, there are enough characters in Dynasty Warrors to make a whole damn football league:

I really feel for some people "myself" included that if they make some minor changes and tweak the graphics a bit, people are going to pick it up. I believe EA knows this and maybe they don't break their backs to put everything they can into a new season of madden. Just my thoughts

Just keep beating that dead horse EA, once madden gets its zombie mode though you're f*cked.

Everyone who doesn't play Madden loves to say it's just a roster update each year. Anyone who actually plays knows last years game sucked compared to '10 because the core gameplay changed too much. They dumbed it down to the point of not being playable.

Madden Games have been terrible since 06. That was the last madden i actually enjoyed. The madden 12 demo was complete and utter garbage. The Madden series as a whole needs a makeover. They have all been terrible this generation aside from 06.

Enough with the hipster-like love of NFL 2k5. Although it had a ton of features not pertinent to the game (crib, paper football, etc.) the main mode, franchise was incredibly gimped.
Does anyone recall the issues with progression? Or maybe that your team played the same schedule every year?
Revisionist history has turned NFL 2k5 into the ultimate underdog, but I'm guessing most people that comment about it only played it in passing, or didn't play it at all.
Yes, Madden offers minimal updates every year, but it is also our only option.

dude its not even about that, Madden doesn't rely on proper physics but rather animations after animations. Players act like suction cups in terms of blocking and tackling, they get sucked into each other, it is well documented.
The game is a joke man, Safeties and Linebackers in the game make leaping one handed catches like nothing. The game is way too dependent on ratings and star power.

No clue why people say the game looks great. I play the demo and played a bit with last seasons, and the textures are muddy and the shadow renderings are lousy. Just like NHL, the graphics are outdated.
