This is really interesting. I never played the first two because by the time I'd heard about them the third one was said to be an impossibility. With Zeboyd behind it, I'll definitely have to check this out.

@Xiegfried Not playing the first two seems to have been the stumbling block for the third one.

I bought the first two during the summer Steam sale dirt cheap. I guess I'd better get to actually playing them now that a finale is in the works.

@Jenks

Maybe not the finale. The original plan was to have 4 episodes, but who knows if they will still try to do that, or just make Ep3 the end.

@Courtney
With a new developer at the helm I dont see why they wouldnt continue to make it 4 episodes. The old developer had other priorities with Deathspank, but this one I havent heard much of anything from.

It was ALREADY HL2: Episode 3, until it was finally officially canceled.

Maybe I'll finally get off my rear and play the first two. I bought them in a cheap bundle but never had the time to play. I'll likely play them right before the third releases.

@Nobledevil Gaming Optimist Exactly how cheap was the bundle you purchased because i bought them as a bundle for like $4.00 and the last time I checked they were still $15.00 each I couldn't pass it up as i thought it was an error from the PS store.

I purchased them on PSN that same week. I believe it was $3 for both of them. Only played through the first one so far, well worth my $1.50

Why does everything with "Episode 3" in the title tend to fall into oblivion?

You mean like every other episodic game series that released a "episode 3" and beyond?

I'm not so sure. The main attraction of the first two games was that you were basically playing a Penny Arcade strip that looked and sounded like a Penny Arcade strip.

Without that novelty it's just an adventure game with familiar characters.

If you think about it most of their strips are 2d side scrollers anyway, I'm just hoping they maintain the artistic quality of the first two.

After playing the first two games recently (got them during the dirt cheap $2.50 price)... I don't know how to feel about this.

I loved the fact that my character LOOKED like a Penny Arcade character in and out of the games cutscenes, I loved the continuity between the two, and god-dang I loved my light-rake weapon...

But it sounds like this will drop all of that. I mean, how will they know I grabbed those secret items and what my characters look like? Will it continue with the how the first games were connected?
And as much as I loved Zeboyd's games, the gameplay itself was rather... simple...

As much as I've been wanting a 3rd game, I just can't tell if I really want it like this... At least until I see some screenshots and the like.

I never did read the plot of what the 3rd game would have been. Perhaps I'll simply play it instead.

Ehhh, not sure how to feel about this. I was excited to hear the third episode was back on up until I read it was going to be, well... different.

Great as I'm sure Zeboyd's work is, it's just not to my taste. I'd rather have a third episode that feels like the previous two (which were very similar to each other) than changing it at number three. To make a drastic example, it'd be like, say, Gears of War going side-scroller for the third game. It might as well be a separate thing.

This is exciting news, but didn't they continue the story in a strictly prose based format? Would this be a retelling of those stories, or something that follows after that?

I heard that was their plan but I don't recall anything actually being produced to that end. they were probably still trying to get it made as a game even after that announcment.

They have actually, its just not been announced much unless you checked their site. I've seen a few entries but never really read through them because at the time I hadn't played the games yet.

Been following Zeboyd (even got in on the CSTW PC Kickstarter), but this, THIS I could have never expected.

And what am I looking forward to most? Completion.

Boyd, make us proud, and tie off one of the many, too many, loose threads of canceled sequels.
