I didn't really like. The last game. It totally lacked focus and I always felt lost regarding my objective and how to get to it

I enjoyed Shattered Dimensions. I would have totally preferred to see Noir Spidey return rather than 2099 Spidey, but it still looks pretty darn sweet.

@BigBadBob113 Noir wouldn't have worked very well with the "Time" theme. Sure it takes place in the 20s-30s, but it's an alternate universe, while the 2099 universe is considered a possible future of the 616

How's this for an idea - a sandbox-Spider-Man game starring Spider-Man 2099? We've swung around contemporary New York a bunch of times but never the futuristic version!

web of shadow was really good, had they stopped making spidey games at that point they would have ended on a high note. i actually had high hopes for shattered dimensions then it turned out to be far too linear, which I'm sure will also be a problem on this game.

@SpiderPrime Amen. That would be an incredible game, if done right. Reminds me of the Spider-Man trailer that recently came out.

I'm really looking forward to this game, too. It's actually part of Top 12 games I'm looking forward to. http://passthemsticks.com/2011/08/my-top-12-most-anticipated-games-for-2011/

Call of Duty gets hounded for having the same mechanics every year, but yet no one mentions that this game is almost literally the exact same as the last?

@Nova17899

Might have to do with the fact that CoD is primarily a multiplayer shooter. You get multiple players together, and they shoot people. Every game.

This might have the same mechanics, but it's (I'd imagine) a story-driven game. Sure, CoD or MW or whatever franchise might have a single-player campaign, but that's hardly the focus of the community.

Well I have fond memories of Spider-Man 2 (we all know it was total magic!) Web of Shadows improved upon the locomotion, the wall-crawling combat (although the combos for regular moves delved into complete ridiculousness) and the sandbox city. I couldn't believe that Shaba was let go after that. Shattered Dimensions was as mediocre as Spider-Man gets and I fully expect Edge of Time to continue that tradition of half-assedness. Beenox and Activision thinks they can fool gamers by putting in a bunch of costumes, as if that alone was the reason people loved the early Spider-Man games. Not true. Spider-Man 2 featured no extras at all, but it did feature awesome gameplay at the time. Beenox is under the gun to deliver another Spider-Man game this year because that's what Activision does - they force developers to crank out the franchises until people want to puke (Guitar Hero, Tony Hawk, Call of Duty) and they're wrung every last cent from consumers while simultaneously squeezing the soul out of the license.

Spider-Man will NEVER see his Arkham Asylum/City equivalent while Activision has the license. They just don't have the vision to let their developers create masterpieces, only annual release dates. Shameful. Disgusting. Typical Activision.

Shaba may have been shut down after WoS because the game was a boring, glitch riddled mess. The game was switch to black suit, do biggest combo, repeat, win. I can't even remember how many times the game froze on me Shattered Dimensions wasn't a great game by any means, but I wasn't bored to death by the end like I was with WoS. Shattered Dimensions had more varied gameplay in one level, than WoS had in the entire game.

I gotta admit, I never tried Web of Shadows. The whole "symbiotes taking over the earth" idea just never appealed to me... Symbiote Wolverine? Really?

Oh well... I might try it out someday, seems to be getting a lot of near nostalgic praise now... in this comment section, at least.

@soniccar We had two very different experiences. WoS never froze or glitched on me once. I found the linear levels and lack of swinging / wallcrawling in SD to be mind-numbingly boring. A Spider-Man game HAS to be free roam for me. It's not 1999 anymore. Give me a free roam or don't even bother developing it. WoS certainly wasn't perfect, but the storyline was far more epic than anything SD spat out in my op. If Shaba had been given another chance or two to make another Spidey game, I'm pretty sure they could have delivered a near perfect experience. But instead, we get these 12 month developed Spider-Man games and the quality speaks for themselves.

You couldn't be more wrong about the Spidey's from Shattered Dimensions. Ultimate was a great Spidey because of the black suit and Rage Mode. 2099 had Accelerated Vision, and Noir had great stealth sections. Amazing had nothing special and felt boring and weak by comparison. Really a disappointing oversight.

That's a shame. I thought the dialogue and acting for the Ultimate Spidey was the most authentic and fun.
