Don't be so butthurt about it.

Still, there's no reason to complain about missing out on something you would've had to do nothing for anyway.

I'm not complaining about not getting it, so I have zero clue where you got that idea.
I was just saying don't bother clicking the link, because the time it took for me to fill that form out twice (first time never registered), see that it was already used, check my inbox to double-check, then come back to this topic, no one had posted.

I don't get the hate on this post. Joystiq has a bug where it sometimes takes comments a while to appear and a "hit and run" would've been tremendously douchey.

You can argue that kind of behavior "doesn't matter". Hell, I'm sure we can all break out the existential literature we read in high school and feel superior in our apathy over this kind of thing. However, I'm sure a fair amount of us are simply glad a complete asshole didn't win.

@ailurus74 Yeah, giving out a free code is such a dick move. They should have just given you to the code to hand out, since you're so much better at giving out free stuff.

I think it was pretty nice of them, considering they didn't have to give it away in the first place. They're just decent enough not to keep the stuff they're given for free.

Complaining that you didn't get free stuff just reeks of entitlement.

Yeah, definitely a dick move of them to switch it up a little and add a little variety to the disbursement of items they never do.

You are a self-entitled infant and need a good dose of reality.

Actually no, they aren't allowed to keep it. Anything they get for free from Joystiq related events they can't keep. Which is why they usually give away all the free swag publishers send them. Their only option was to give this away or trash it.

Yeah, but isn't that a self-implemented policy? My point was that they wouldn't have to give it away if they didn't want to, but their own policy requires that they do.

As far as I know, there wouldn't be any legal problems with the Joystiq staffers (or the company as a whole) keeping the stuff they get from publishers for free, but I'm definitely no law student, so I admit that me being wrong is pretty likely in this instance.

Well I know with pretty much every other media outlet (newspaper, television, retail, or radio) if you receive items on the clock that you're not allowed to keep them. They're considered like a bribe of sorts so it's usually company policy (So AOL in this case) not to allow you to keep, and definitely grounds for firing if you sell it (even if you hang onto it for three years then turn it in used to a GameStop). I could be wrong in this one rare case, but highly unlikely with a company like AOL passing out the paychecks.

Obviously, I didn't grab the code in time, but I have to say, this was a pretty cool thing for Gearbox to do (you're cool too, Joystiq).

I loves me some Gearbox. Except for that whole Duke Nukem Forever thing, of course, but I'm just blaming that on 3D Realms for the most part.

That's a class act all the way on Gearbox's part for giving away all those copies...and kudos to Joystiq for sharing the wealth.
