New Final Fantasy XIII-2 trailer has everything you'd expect
90
Final Fantasy games are universally known for certain things, and even with a brand-spankin'-new trailer like this one, it's easy to guess what you're getting into. Moogles? Got 'em. Gorgeous pre-rendered cutscenes? Yup, got those too. Metal horse? You'd better believe it.

holy androgyny, batman! no wonder monsters are always trying to take over the FF universe; all their dudes look like pussys.

So second time they do a direct sequel and again in my least favorite world/story/cast of characters of any FF...

Second time? It didn't seem like Final Fantasy IV: The After Years was that bad.

Well, you are right, the game IS a sequel and all, im aware of that, BUT it doesnt count since Matrix co-developed! :P

Its maddening too...instead of strengthening what was done in XII and building upon it....they pretty much make an on-rails sequel instead.
...I can't find further words to express my disappointment with XIII so I'm just going to use this instead:

I was hoping Lightning would be the star, I mean thats what the first trailers looked like x.x

@Faenix well as far as i understand from interviews pretty much whole story is to "make Lightning happy" so i'm guessing Lightning will have fair share in this game. i loved her too!

Lightning was quite a badass, I'd love to see her return as the main character. Actually I'd love to see the whole cast return as playable (except for... you know, those who can't). But now... Serah as the main character what the hell are they thinking?
Of course, that ain't gonna keep me from buying it anyway

I'm just hoping they don't pull an X-2... IE, the story already seems to be "find the main character from the previous game"... if the "Lightning" we're seeing ends up being some other character that just happens to look identical......
Assuming that can't possibly be the case, I'm pretty excited for this.

Doesn't look as good as Versus, but at least it looks prettier than the original 13!

We know virtually nothing of Versus so I don't know why you are comparing it to that.

We actually know a fair bit about Versus, it just requires a lot of digging to find information.

It's a pity that they didn't keep the moogle design from 12. I thought that was their best look.

What? The marriage thing isn't even that big a deal. It's just an added feature to the already expansive opportunities Skyrim offers.
That said... Mass Effect vs. Elder Scrolls vs. Final Fantasy doesn't work as all three are different types of RPGs. Don't bring your garbage to Joystiq and go back to the GameFAQs.

About time they showed Hope's appearance in this game, many people were expecting his awesome appearance. The game looks like it'll tie the story well this time. And to top it off I am liking the new characters so far, Noel and the mysterious knight from the realm Lightning is at now.

It's a stupid argument. Most games are 'linear', sidescrolling Mario games and first person shooters included.

I submit that Half-Life 2 wouldn't be half the game it is right now if it wasn't so linear... Linearity allows developers to choose what you do, which -for me at least- is excellent, seeing as how most of the time - if I have a choice of what to do - I always choose the least interesting option (like stealth, or reading every single computer I run past, hoping to find an email that gives me some useful piece of information).
Open games are great too, but let's be fair here, you can't go off and do whatever you want in any Final Fantasy game. You either end up in a place where dudes 1 hit you, or you come to a door you can't open yet. And for me, being restricted in an open world is worse than being restricted in a corridor. At least in a corridor you know why you can't do anything else...

@Lucky48 - No one's wrong here - the linearity of Final Fantasy games is very purposeful. But linear doesn't mean "in a line" as literally as in Final Fantasy XIII. Being funneled down corridors isn't the core of the Final Fantasy experience, and even though the game does open up later on, it's a little too late.
Even in a game like Final Fantasy XII, which I wasn't as big a fan of as earlier entries, think about the city of Rabanastre: you could pretty much explore it however you wanted to. Final Fantasy XIII sends you on a constant, forward progression, and that's what makes its "linearity" so frustrating. Because you're right, Final Fantasy VII and on are pretty dang linear, just not in such a restrictive, claustrophobic way.

Dude! You hit the nail on the head so hard, Instead of having some kind of level design that was more appealing to the eyes, they funneled you down a corridor. I couldn't play it for too long as it gave me this really weird head ache, almost anxiety at times. +1 to you brother.
