It supports Steam. That's plenty enough already.

No, just Steam is "enough", GFWL as well as Steam is "too much".

I'm possibly in the minority, or maybe just lucky. But I have no real issues with Games for Windows LIVE, other than the way it decides to tell you it needs to update only AFTER you're in a game, and will not take no for an answer.

That, and they have shit prices. DLC from fallout 3 costs the same as it did when it was first released.. And i bought it.. and oh god, i liked it...

I do enjoy the achievements, as pointless as they are. Satisfying to hear the *ploink* noise.

I'm just praying "supports" doesn't mean "requires" like Dawn of War 2. HATE GFWL with such a passion I'd rather just not buy a game that requires it.

Because all PC games that run on Windows should support achievements. That's what's killing me with Battlefield 3, I want achievements, but I don't want to play the crappy version. I have no idea why people would care about the fact that it uses it in the first place, once the game starts it's the game. It bugs the crap out of me I;m paying, and I'm playing, but I'm not getting the 100% benefit I could with another thousand gamerscore

You know, I heard if you keep a little check list handy while playing PC games (and MAC games, surprisingly) and mark every achievement you've earned, you can send it in to

Microsoft Corporation
One Microsoft Way
Redmond, WA 98052-6399

and get completely reimbursed for every point you achieved.
How's that for customer loyalty?

@muckuruxx Because I'm paying my $59.99 the same as the Xbox user. The functionality and APIs are already there, as well as the majority of the programming. Including them is easy. The rest of the GFWL infrastructure can go hang, I just want my bink, and I want it to count.

@(Unverified) I know what you mean I love achievements it a way of compare how good you are at games (well kind of) but if your having an argument with some about gaming and they have a low gamerscore you can just say ''You don't know what your talking about MR/MRS/DEPENDABLE ON WHAT DAY IT IS you don't know anything about gaming with you (insert there gamerscore here)''. I have never had a problem with GAMES FOR WINDOWS LIVE (Btw I know steam has achievements but nobody I know is on steam there all of xbox live.

Reasons for Why xiLeShadow does not support GFWL (out the top of his head)

1. If you uninstall the game and registry and save files are aren't correctly the same, the game won't accept the saves once you reinstall.

2. Games for Windows LIVE likes to eat up saves for no darn reason.

3. Microsoft servers are bad and the updating system is so outdated. Need to go into the game to update, leave the game, install update, and reboot said game. If files have changed or renamed, Error.

4. Developers are forced to go through the same certification system as Xbox 360. Meaning, patchs won't be released instantly and after 3 updates, Microsoft charges extra for any other patches.

5. Microsoft has control of DLC within the Games for Windows LIVE marketplace. Game's have no choice but to use said system. Microsoft as such, has control of DLC. Microsoft doesn't like Free Stuff, most of the time. Free DLC = Rare.

6. Microsoft GFWL DRM has Install Limits and Double Keys.

7. I don't trust a company who only cares about Xbox, to handle an important aspect of PC gaming.

8. Oh, you also have to be online in order to save your game. Almost as bad as Ubi---- DRM

9. Did I say, its is super bad?

I normal install DRM would have been fine, Steamworks is better than this. Come On Warner Bros, you used it for crap FEAR 3!

@xiLeShadow Most of what you say is all good reasons, especially the free DLC issue. But MS already controls the operating system on which all PC gaming runs. But at least with MS, I can call a number if I have a problem, and it's resolved within a few minutes instead of weeks through Steam. Even if your console is banned from Live, you can still play the games you've bought on your HD. Not so with Steam. Valve is equally bad, and worse in many ways

So let's agree that a single company having control over an industry is bad, and that there needs to be a single, Ultraviolet style organization who cannot take your games away from you, and has a phone number you can call, and no limit on what you can do

1 - 4 .

Can't comment on these as I have never had a problem with saves and re-installing.

5. Microsoft has control of DLC within the Games for Windows LIVE marketplace. Game's have no choice but to use said system. Microsoft as such, has control of DLC. Microsoft doesn't like Free Stuff, most of the time. Free DLC = Rare.

Free DLC is not rare with microsoft platforms. If you actually go to the GFW market place, the majority of games with DLC have several free DLCs.

6. Microsoft GFWL DRM has Install Limits and Double Keys.

Older games used a 15 install limit yes which you were able to get reset by calling up MS. Newer games though use SSA which ties the CD Key to your LIVE account allowing you to play the game anywhere like what steam does.

8. Oh, you also have to be online in order to save your game. Almost as bad as Ubi---- DRM

No you don't. You can play and save LIVE games with a LIVE account offline or with an offline account offline.

Newer titles like Bulletstorm won't allow you to play the game unless your GFWL account has online functionality.

you know, XBL is pretty good and it's such a shame GFWL is so bad. i won't buy a game which uses it any more.

it leaks memory on my machine at a rate of about 4MB/sec unless it's minimized. so of the few games i have which use it, if i forget to minimize it when i launch a game, i'm looking at a guaranteed crash in 3 ... 2 .... 1 ....

no, i have to launch a game, then minimize GFWL or it will chew through all available memory to the point where the system crashes. minimizing GFWL stops it from leaking memory. don't ask me how or why, it just does.

you can even watch it climb in the windows page usage history graph in the windows task manager. GFWL minimized, page file usage remains flat, but restore it and it immediately climbs and climbs. the only options are minimized it, close it, or crash. only one of those options allows you to play a game.

GFWL runs within the game, so there shouldn't be anything open for you to minimise.

i have a games for windows live marketplace - LIVE client program, which is like steam, in that you log in and the games i bought through the GFWL marketplace when MS was having their 99 cent sales, have to be launched from that client because there's no option to install and launch them from somewhere else, as far as i can tell.

it's also the reason i didn't buy anything else from their marketplace.
