Games might be region free, but DVD and some Blu-Rays are not. But maybe more importantly, I noticed that there is some different usage of the four Playstation symbol buttons on Asian models as well, I think the X and Circle symbol are often used opposite of here, so one should be mindful of that too before considering to order Asian PS3 units. Used to have a Hong Kong PS3 for a while and it was irritating that which buttons to use jumped back and forth based on game preference (using US/EU setup) and console preference (using Asian setup).

@Uraeus
Both Japan and US are NTSC right? Shouldn't cause too much of a problem. PS1 games are also region-locked.

Asian systems have the confirm button mapped to Circle, and cancel/back to X. You do get used to it, and most games will use the default of the console so it shouldn't be a big problem for most people.

That's kinda funny, circle/A button used to be the default in all rpg's even in the west. Until somehow western devs/publishers decided to switch it around, for some weird-ass reason. To this day I still change it back to the way I'm used to when given the option.

@bm111
That's because in Japan a circle is used like a "check" is used in the west while an X is used as a "no".
Western Gamers are used to a certain layout though. Something like the following (Snes/Playstation buttons):
X/Triangle = Option/Secondary Action
Y/Square = Attack/hold to run/cancel
A/Circle = lift/grab
B/X = Jump/Action/confirm

@sparkster uhhh... I AM a western gamer and from the SNES days I've always been used to A/O being confirm and B/X being cancel.

Sigh, I remember when the rest of us got different colored consoles. How I long for those days.

I hate how we never get specialty PS3s in the US. @$#% you SCEA. I would have gladly paid for a Killzone 3 or Resistance 3 PS3. Hell, even a MAG one, but I guess you just don't want my money.

@hami83

Well as long as Nintendo doesn't have anything to do with anything (I say that as I recall the original was on the DS), probably some time in the not too distant future.

Which is good because this game looks awesome.

"The Another World"?! uhhh...hrmmm. well if they DO bring it to the States, hopefully they will come up with a new name because a) that just isn't correct and b) "Another World" (also known as "Out of This World") is already a game by Eric Chahi.

Who the hell translated "Ni no Kuni" as "The Another World?" It's definitely not an official Level-5 translation, that's for sure. The literal meaning is "Second World" or "World Two" or even "Country Two" (although "World" makes more sense than "Country" since the game makes it clear that it is different than our world). In the DS game, "Ni no Kuni" is a second world that the hero travels to, while "Ichi no Kuni" (the First World) is our real world.

I imagine that if this ever does get localized, which at the very least the PS3 version would be an awesome candidate for, the title would change to something along those lines.
