Wired has posted an image purportedly taken from the European Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Hardened Edition, which reveals the super special incentives contained therein. The hottest of the bonuses is a one-year premium membership to the Call of Duty Elite social platform, which nets you a "Founder status" designation -- a rank which includes an exclusive in-game emblem, player card, and camouflage, as well as an XP boost for your Elite clan.
Other bonuses include a (literally hardened) steel case, new disc art, a PSN-exclusive theme and Xbox 360-exclusive "Special Ops Juggernaut" Avatar outfit and a 100-page "field journal," which contains sketches and notes from the frontline. We've contacted Activision to see if this edition is legit, and whether or not it's coming to America -- though we'd wager it'll be the same in both territories, as it has been in Call of Duties past.

I'm going to wait until Infinity Ward releases the DLC for Modern Warfare 3. If they release the DLC for FREE, like they did before Modern Warfare 2, then consider me a customer.
If not, well then I'll have other games to play anyways.

Yes like they did for Call of Duty 4.
Hopefully Battlefield 3 forces Activision to give out some free goodies, like they use to.

Oh, I forgot. I'm mostly a PC gamer, so I play most of my games on PC. Consoles are for the exclusives for me. Call of Duty always had Free DLC, before MW2 on PC, in order to continue support of the game.
It is a PC tradition for developers to keep supporting the game and rewarding players for continue playing it with updated patches and free DLC.
Activision went against PC tradition with MW2, by removing server support, mod support, lean, higher player count support, paid DLC, clan support, Kick/Ban commands, console commands, custom maps, higher price point, etc. etc
They seem to be trying to gain the PC's community trust again, hopefully. So I'm wishing they return to the traditional roots.

Publishers/developers tend to charge for console DLC because there was never a set standard. They found out that people who were never influenced by PC tradition, wouldn't know any better if they paid for DLC.
This is why I hate when publishers group PC and console players as the same. We have different traditions and different history. It is like one country invading another, and forcing them to accustom to the invading countries tradition.
Another thing that annoys me is when, console gamers keep saying that PC gamers are always whining.
How would one feel if you are being "forced" into anothers tradition? Would one not complain?

Ah gotcha, didn't realize you played on PC. I remember the days of free map packs and such when I used to play PC games exclusively. Had to quit because It was getting too expensive to keep up with PC hardware. I would love it if they made the DLC free for PC gamers, unfortunately I doubt that will happen. Not very many Publishers/Developers for most AAA games on PC these days don't include free DLC anymore from what I have seen lately. The Vietnam DLC for Bad Company 2 wasn't free and when I look at Steam there are a ton of items with DLC tags that aren't free. I'm afraid the days of every PC game having free DLC are almost over. :(

Maybe true for the most part. There are still tons of developers who push out Free DLC for PC gamers.
I think it might change back to free DLC again, soon enough.
I don't mind paying for Expansion Packs, but tiny little things like maps should be free. IMO.

@xiLeShadow Too bad EA will release DLCs for BF3 tho and no mod tools cause they will make no $$$$ on that. Oh well no mod tools no promod no eSport game dead in 1 year and we get BF4. Repeat.
I am a BF fan and hope this will not happen and game will get mod tools in the end or at least some decent eSport support. Time will tell..

I wouldn't hold your breath on Activision giving you free CoD DLC for MW3.
If EA continues their trend from BC2 then then only thing you'll be paying extra for are expansions (Vietnam).

I will never be able to understand why some people really believe they deserve free stuff just because they play on a PC.
That's like saying "I drive a Honda, I deserve free gas!"

I absolutely love it when people think DLC should be free. Is it overpriced? Probably. Is it right? Yes! You people do realize that it takes thousands of man-hours to create new content, right? These developers deserve to be paid for their jobs, so stop whining. Like you said, though. If you don't agree with it, don't be a customer.

That's all Hardened edition has ever cost in the past, so you're in luck.
Anyway, half the time I find myself buying Hardened just because the cover art on the standard version is so terrible.

@Doctalen I actually think this looks like a worthwhile purchase... $20 and you get the game, along with however many $15 map packs they release in the first year. You can't keep them, but if they release even 2 map packs that's $10 off for a steady stream of new content.

You're saving between $10 to $25 depending on whether they release one or two map packs by buying the Hardened Edition. Sure you will no longer "own" the maps after a year but at that point you'll probably have upgraded to the new CoD.
