Oh hey, I met these guys and played the game at PAX as well.

It was fun, and made me want more. There's nowhere near enough of these types of games.

Props to the dev team for doing well. I look forward to release.

Same here. I watched this video and it made me think of that game. I couldn't remember, I thought it was called Freelancer. Definitely needs a sequel.

@Terrorbyt3

I've been playing a bit of Black Prophecy, lately. I didn't even know it existed until about two weeks ago, and it's really impressing me.

It feels very Freelancer-like, but I'm still not sure how much depth there is (ship choice/customization and whatnot).

Regardless, I'm glad this genre is on an upswing. Freelancer was largely responsible for getting me in to PC gaming back at the turn of the century.

If I could just get X3 to work, that series is supposed to be the grandaddy; fully realized galaxy with open-ended gameplay.

I've been playing Darkstar for the last few weeks. In the beginning, I felt like a kid again playing Wing Commander, it was so awesome to be back at the helm of a space ship.

But DS1 suffers from a lack of diversity. I think I'm about halfway through, and so far virtually the entire game has been just a rinse and repeat of killing space pirates. I'll give it another evening or so, but unless it throws something else in, not sure I can bother to finish it.

X3 is abysmal. The gameplay moves at a snail's pace. The story presentation looks like it was ripped out of a 1999 copy of Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing. Worst of all, the main "threat" presented in the game is an alien race known as the "Kha'ak." Kha'ak. I'll give everyone a minute to sound that out and imagine what it's like having every character ejaculating in your ear about the dangers of the Kha'ak.

Someone should make a dota type space sim game. That'd rock

I admire the indie developers so much because they are the ones revisiting those great genres no one else will touch, so kudos to this team! It is long overdue and it would be great to see what this genre can do on newer technology.

This one looks like it has the fundamentals down, though it needs a greater sense of urgency to its effects and audio.

I let the Devs know the exact same thing then I played it PAX. The fundamentals are good, just needs better radio chatter. The very clinical 'hull integrity is 0 percent, there are no survivors.' Shouldcome after the captain giving warning to abandon ship or reactors have Gone super-critical followed by screams and a burst of static.

I agree, more radio chatter would be great. It might just be because no one was firing on the player, but I would like to hear more alarms and see your ship get knocked around when it gets hit.

I also would like to see other weapons. I like how the machine guns sounded for the most part, but I hope there are different calibur guns with different firing rates. Maybe even energy weapons, who knows. Im sure there is more in the works they havent shown us though.

Don't forget Freespace 2 and all the incredible work being done over at www.hard-light.net. We've been keeping the faith for over a decade on this genre. You won't believe your eyes.

I really wish they would come out with a new Staw Wars game, something like Battlefront, but with polished graphics, great gameplay, campaign and multiplayer on land, see, and air, simultaneously would be nice. If they could pull that off, they would have something that even CoD fans would like.

Hell yes! This is one of my favorite genres and I've always been so bummed that it nearly died out. Let's keep the comeback going!

oh the things I would do for a new X-wing vs. tie fighter...I'm sure there will be a new one someday, but I just hope it's sooner rather than later.

I can't wait! Justin and I discussed this game briefly at PAX. We're both more excited than he let on in this post.
