Report: Namco/Tecmo collaboration is a One Piece Dynasty Warriors game

When Namco Bandai and Tecmo Koei put up a countdown site for a new collaboration, we guessed cynically that it was another Dynasty Warriors Gundam game. It looks like we were half right, which means we were twice as cynical as we needed to be.

According to Andriasang, scans from Jump magazine reveal a PS3-exclusive Dynasty Warriors-style game based on the One Piece manga/anime series, called One Piece Kaizoku Musou, or One Piece Pirate Musou ("Musou" being the name of the "Warriors" series). Nothing was revealed about the title, except that a video will be shown during TGS -- but, since it's a Dynasty Warriors game, you already know how to play it. This time, you'll be defeating waves of enemy soldiers using your stretchy arms, which is different.

Fist of north star dynasty warrior style game was crap, but Gundam was awesome... This could go either way, but I am definitely looking forward to it either way!! They need to do this for more anime xD I could say many series going to this gameplay... naruto, dragon ball, ect......

One Piece AND Dynasty Warriors!? This game would be powerful enough to take over Japan.

Not all that surprising, that is pretty much all they are doing now it seems. If it isn't Dynasty Warriors, its Dynasty Warriors: Anime! What I wouldn't give for something unique to be done with anime franchises instead of generic hundreds-beat-em-ups.

Like that Gundam RPG Level 5 was announced to be working on! Where's some news for that!

Most anime is just basically this though... Main Characters beating down a bunch of lesser characters. Well, not most... but at the very least the series they've chosen to do. Gundam and Fist of the North Star were ideal candidates... and One Piece also had quite a few sequences of them beating up entire armies of guys.

I can't wait for Dynasty Warriors: Gurren Lagann!

@Xoonaka I was gonna say I've seen hundreds of anime and MOST are NOT fighters but they're definitively the most popular.

You know... I would KILL for a Gurren Lagann game that was handled right. I don't know if a Dynasty Warriors game would be best for it though... Many of the most memorable fights weren't hugely hundreds and hundreds, it was a few on few or one on a few. A 3D fighting game, kind of like the Raging Blast DBZ games (and others like it) would be sweet, specially if they had CC2's kind of visuals for it...

And true Kougeru, true that there are plenty that are focused on other things, but its much easier (outside of japan) to make and sell a game based off Anime with often times crazy fights in them.

I think that's the one big failing of Dynasty Warrior games, for sure... one on one battles. I really wish they would focus a bit more on making these epic.

Although, Dynasty Warriors Gundam did a decent job (as far as Dynasty Warriors goes).

I bought a Shonen Jump the other day. I haven't seen One Piece since the first two seasons were aired in Japan, so I didn't care much for the chapter that layed within the pages of the magazine. Having read all of the other mangas within this volume, I decided to take a look at the One Piece chapter.

Good lord it was epic.

One piece keeps getting better and better, I was meh with the series at first but I got completely hooked during the CP9/Water 7 Story Arc. Rob Lucci kicks ass!

The difference between regular DS and this is that I want this.

We need a good 1vs1 one piece game and Bleach game. Cyberconnect 2 should make them.

Seriously idk why these dynasty warrior game are so popular.

I'm guessing this ends at the end of the war/before New World.

All of my yes. One Piece is my favorite show of all time. I just wish 4 Kids didn't give everyone the wrong idea. We would probably see more games state side.

4Kids messed up, oh well. No sense complaining about the past anymore.

We're like a year or two off from the regular manga releases (with Viz Manga, go get the free chapter one off their website), and Funimation put out some great dubbed episodes and is working with Toei to sub new episodes each week. Aside from the two Unlimited Cruise, adventure RPG, games and the 2D brawler, Gigant Battle, One Piece love can be felt here.

As long as those companies do solid work and continue being in good standings with the Japanese license holders, plus more sales, then we can expect more in the next decade of brand new One Piece content.

What a waste of license. What's with every anime turning into a Dynasty Warriors game? Fist of the North Star, Bleach, Saint Seiya and now One Piece... it wasn't a joke when someone said the japanese actually like this genre A LOT.

No 360 version? lame. Well, PS3 price drop + this and a handful of other exclusives...maybe it's finally time to get a PS3 to go with the over used 360 and dusty Wii. I wonder if I'll actually use it...

All characters pictured can be unlocked for $2 apiece.

This better be good! I'm not a big fan of DW, but I'm a huge fan of One Piece so I'm interested. I feel like it should've been a fighting game in the same vein as Ultimate Ninja Storm, but oh well.

I don't really like the series, but I'm glad to see the fans getting a nod. I might have a look.

One note, I just saw a *eh-hem* fan-subbed version of the 3D One Piece movie, it was okay. If I could just do what Zoro did during his fight scene then I would be a happy boy :3

At first I wasnt sure how good a game it might be but after searching out and watching the movie you mentioned I'm almost sold. One piece came a LOOONG way since I last saw it.

At first I was like One Piece :D but then I Dyanasty Warriored :(

As much as I like One Piece, I'm not a Dynasty Warriors fan. I don't outright hate hack and slash games, but they get repetitive and boring very quickly.

I found that with the Dynasty Warriors Gundam games - they started fun but soon grew boring, repetitive, and really not all that special to the point where it didn't even matter if they were Gundams or not.

Still, I'll probably end up buying it just because of my love for One Piece. Hopefully they do some unique things with the game to make it more exciting.

I'm still wondering if I should get into one piece. I know Funimation is releasing 24-episode box sets (for reasonable prices i might add) but it is still such a long anime o.o
Is it worth it guys?

@RasenganFury It is especially it has great dubbing an subs and the dvd collections are well priced, you actually get 26 episodes per boxset (for one piece collection) the normal dvds have 13 episodes normally!

Ugh, Dynasty Warriors just needs to die already. I always say, if you've played one Dynasty Warriors, you've played them all. Koei needs to disappear.
