These games need to add something new/different . You really can't tell them apart.

@Martyrdom That's true of HoN vs. DotA/2, but LoL is very different from either of them and is also adding a new mode to the genre.

@blackangel209 Besides a new game mode, how is LoL different? I admit I haven't played it, but I've watched matches of Dota/2 and LoL and played some HoN and I don't really see what makes LoL stand out.

@wrongThinker Overall mechanics, workable tactics, importance of minions, speed/ease of death in late vs early game, graphics, denying is removed, tower damage/intelligence, persistent leveling system, meta-upgrade system.

What's this one's claim-to-fame? As in, what sets it apart from League of Legends or Heroes of Newerth that would actually entice those players to give it a try?

HoN and DotA/2 are extremely similar. I've heard LoL is different, but I'm not convinced. DemiGod was definitely different (fewer but more complex characters, different levels, etc.). Bloodline Champions (my favorite) probably owes as much to fighting games as it does to DotA.

But this one? I'm not sure what this one does...

@wrongThinker Update: After checking their website they SEEM to be going the Demigod route... fewer characters, but possibly with more diverse styles and character development.

@HaVoK308 Try as I might, I can't find a more positive or constructive simile than "dogshit". If it looks like a duck, and sounds like a duck....

@wrongThinker

Is it anything like Sword of the New World? That game didn't really catch on with me.

If, unlike its comparatives, the pace of action is faster than watching paint dry, I might be interested. As it currently stands, nothing in the MOBA genre has the speed to capture my attention for more than 5 minutes, and I don't consider myself particularly ADD...

Oh gawh...

Can we stop overcrowding the MOBA genre? First we raped MMO's until now there are thousands out there, now are we going to do the same thing to the MOBA's?

I mean hell playing AoC there are countless people looking to jump ship at the "next big f2p mmo". Pick a game and stick with it people! It is very disappointing and distracting joining a guild only to have them all "move on" to the next game in months!

Look the original DOTA was great. It was unique and fun. Heroes of Newerth ( http://www.heroesofnewerth.com/f2p_splash.php ) upped the ante by making the thing less boring with more of everything.

League of Legends ( http://signup.leagueoflegends.com/?ref=4c69d880a8c8c ) pushed the genre in a new direction by adding a ton of heroes and strategies to the mix. The new Dominion mode coming on or before September 8'th (imo) should make the game even more addicting by making the game even faster paced (if you want it to be that is, you can still play the slow strategic version).

Why crowd the market with more MOBA's? Bloodline Champions is horrible and more of the same, DOTA 2 is coming any day now and this just adds to the mix.

Hopefully LoL still remains the top MOBA out there, and as long as they keep innovating (and hopefully adding new maps), I don't see why it won't.

Sorry for the rant.

/over.
