Jesse also has been caught playing Sega Allstars Racing too. Not to mention the hilarious debate between CoD Nazi Zombies, Resident Evil 4, and Left 4 Dead when his friends were doing the blue.

It was three times the amount of trippy.
This happened because you were high, had left your console on while you were watching TV and you happened to be holding a NES lightgun and you thought you magically got Rage.

Does Bethesda have any any say over this? Because it's an even less effective ad if people base their purchase decision on this game being a rail shooter.

for the love of... its not an advertisement. People aren't gonna do interent searches for a game that may not even exist to them. This was just a cameo of sorts, and i'm sure Bethesda knew, and i bet they didn't even think "we have to make this into a commercial"

@PR0F3TA I have to disagree with you there. This is definitely an advertisement. They wouldn't drop the logo for an unreleased game in there randomly at the end if they simply wanted to show a guy playing a violent video game. It's disappointing, too, because other than this, Breaking Bad is a fantastic show.

This is depicting a pretty obvious case of "violent people are attracted to violent media," not "video games promote violence." I mean, it's not like Jesse murdered Gale for screen watching.

Wait.....are you seriously just now reporting this??? Its Friday night. Heck it was almost Saturday when you posted this story. This episode was on Sunday. Kotaku didn't waste anytime writing a post about how dumb this scene was.

When I saw the episode, I thought to myself, "Oh Joystiq is going to write a post about how dumb this scene was."

Now I'm just baffled why you even wrote it at all after all this time. Slow news week guys?

Eh, BB is above cheap advertising.

I think the creators wanted to use a videogame - just as they have in the past - to enhance the real-life issues Jesse is going with. He killed a man, and is facing that, albeit in a virtual sense. At the end, should he chose to do it again, or quit?

Using Rage is a just a time and place event. The game is coming out soon, it's sharp looking, it's dark - both literally and mentally, and it suits the mood of Jesse's mindset. Somehow I don't think watching Drake snap some dude's neck in Uncharted 3, or watching Batman glide-kick a loon in Arkham City would have been so strong a visual.

Games can have an impact in popular social outlets, and they doen't always have to be construed as cheap advertising.

Exactly. They wanted to use a game, so this is a case where it went from story to product placement rather than product placement to story.

@PR0F3TA Is the show very comedic at all? I've always loved Bryan Cranston, but I'm affraid to watch the show and get sucked into a gripping drama. I've been wanting to pick up the Blu-ray seasons, but no one can quite put their finger on whether or not it's serious as a heart attack, or a black comedy that makes great use of Cranston's ridiculous comedic range.

He also has to move around too, Rage ain't no rail shooter.

I cringed when I saw this though. I love Breaking Bad, but really? You're gonna have product placement in your opening scene? BB is probably famous for having unique and engaging cold opens, but this really put me off. Maybe if I didn't know what Rage was, I wouldn't have had such a negative reaction to it.

But you see, it's the opposite, he turned to Rage as a way of coping with guilt over his real life violence. Video games don't cause violence. Violence causes video games.

Kind of a goofy scene, for sure. And definitely overlong. That said, it came in the same episode as a scene that pretty much guarantees that Aaron Paul (who plays Jesse) is getting another Emmy. That dude is an incredible actor, and he's stolen almost every episode this season.

Heisenberg? man, i'm surprised you have the time to post a reply on here. now get back to work you, lest Gustavo slices your jugular with a boxcutter.

anyway, i didn't think it was that bad. product placement, sure, but at least it was for something cool. shit, Jesse's still a relatively young dude. i'm guessing he's in the 22-25 year range. why wouldn't he be playing games every once in a while? every person who peddles meth for a living and shoots people in the face plays videogames. i know i do.

@Mr Esc is the namesarcasm is my

you guys are all missing the point big time... the light gun is metaphor for a real gun.. and real shooting of a real person by pinkman (thus the flashes of real guns and real people) just using a really good looking game... (also they actually spent time making this look like a legit light gun game, if you didnt notice the crosshairs move over the game over screen) why use an old lightgun game to make a point when you can use cool looking shit to get your story across?

I thought the game placement was weird...it screamed slightly of advertisement, but then again, anybody not following upcoming game releases wouldn't know that.
