It seems like I've been hearing about this game FOREVER. When is it actually coming out?

I feel like every week there is a new post about this game on Joystiq

But the concept seems interesting and it could be a fun game

@The Cole Train
I feel you dude, the next time I want to see this game on Joystiq is when it actually RELEASES, I really don't care to hear any more about it until then....I'm kind of sick of it actually, I almost don't want to play. =/

This was neat to hear about as a hobby game someone was making a few years back, but why is it still getting press after so little has changed?

I like experimental games, but when you're relying on restrictive roles, simplistic graphics, and shallow gameplay, I can't imagine anyone would want to play this more than a few times. Even then, I'll bet most people who play end up taking a wild guess. That's not fun. It's a cool concept, but this is pretty dull execution.

This guy made a rant a few years ago, and for that he gets press from hipster bloggers who can't quite discern between good gameplay and this... experience that wants to be a game.

I don't think you understand what's going on here. Granted, the game looks like the beta for the first The Sims game, there is depth here. It's all about the metagame.

The more options you have, the more likely there is to be a flavor of the week/GO TO build. This artificially lowers the skill cap, which is cool, but it results in a boring, non-interesting metagame.

When you have fewer options, player skill becomes important. Look at the first 10 minutes of an SC2 match. You have very few options and each option is played differently by each player. It is the most crucial part of the game.

After that, each match generally devolves in to whatever flavor of the month end game build there is and, in turn, is snoozy and uninteresting.

I really love this concept but I'm still not hearing anything which is convincing me that it's going to work. On a detailed level that is -- I've heard people saying "it does work" but all really without getting into the nitty gritty

@Crayola Q Pants ESQ Just got a chance to watch the video posted and it does give a better idea, although a walk through of the spy's point of view may have helped

Turing? As Alan Turing, grandfather of modern computers and programming? That'd be way to obscure and educated a reference for Joystiq though...

Spy Party is based on the inverse of the Turing Test. Instead of an AI convincing you its human, the humans are trying to convince you that you are AI.

Except taking years to make, looking worse and being nowhere near as enjoyable

Has nobody heard of "The Ship"? It's a game on steam where a bunch of players and NPC's are on a cruise ship, and each player must assassinate another player while at the same time blending in with the NPC's. This instantly reminded me of it.

Whats with the 3d modelling gizmo showing in the scene? Is it just to try to push home that unfinished look it has or does it have a purpose?
