The prizes have been passed out at the Call of Duty XP Million Dollar Tournament in Los Angeles, and the US' OpTic Gaming has taken home first prize, totalling a whopping $400,000. OpTic picked up the lead early in the round of final matches, capturing flags on the Dome map in the first game, and picking up and holding two out of three points in the two Domination maps on Resistance after that. The UK team Infinity caused some trouble in the Kill Confirmed round (after winning a tiebreaker Team Deathmatch to make the finals), but OpTic dug in for the final rounds in Search and Destroy to win the tourney. "No college debt -- that's how I feel, baby!" said one of OpTic's players right after the match.
Infinity is stuck with second prize, which is "only" $200,000. Almost a quarter of a million dollars for playing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3? Still not a bad weekend. The other big winner at the conference was Call of Duty fan Brandy Miller, whose picture won a competition on Facebook, and allowed her to take home that brand new Call of Duty edition Jeep Wrangler.
Everybody else? They won a few bruises from the paintball court outside. And oh yeah -- everybody who paid the $150 for a ticket (the proceeds of which go to the Call of Duty Endowment) also picks up a Hardened Edition of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. Along, of course, with all the hearing damage of listening to gunfire and explosions all weekend long.

That's awesome! More big time publishers should definitely acquire more and more smaller developers, suck their talent and money making abilities dry, then kick them to the curb to fund community events that draw more awareness and publicity for the most lucrative franchise in the current gaming world!

Are you really using news of this tournament to push an agenda of corporate hatred? Wow.
There are plenty of reasons to hate Activison, including their treatment of smaller studios. This tournament is not one of them, as it has little to no bearing on the situation at places like Bizarre, except in possibly the most convoluted six degrees of Kevin Bacon sort of way.
In other words, spare us from this garbage and save it for a time and place where it actually has some relevance, 'K? Thx.

@AplusM Define beast for me please.
Last time I checked a bunch of players have similar play styles including me .. Yeah they might be good but I doubt they are the best.
If I threw together a montage video you could see something similar .. I might eventually do one after I get a capture card to be honest

The total purse was 1 million. Meaning that there is a million dollars worth of total prize money spread out and up for grabs

I was skeptical before, but now I'm really questioning whether 100% of the ticket sales will make it to the Call of Duty Endowment.
The event was expected to have around 6000 attendees at $150 each which would mean $900,000.
-- $1000000 lost in this giveaway
-- $600,000 for giving the hardened edition to all attendees (they would have bought it anyways)
-- The unknown cost of furnishing and renting the facility
-- stuff I am missing
+ the money they made from selling merchandise and $12 burgers at Burger Town
They're already over a $70000 net loss if those calculations are anywhere close (not counting sales during the event).
I know Activision reps said the event would cost more than they would make from tickets, but if that is the case: WHAT PROCEEDS? I dislike it when companies say they are giving to a charity and then you realize there are little to no actual proceeds.
The Call of Duty Endowment provided a couple million already so I can only hope Activision sticks to their word and more.

@Lerkero I'm not sure you understand the difference between proceeds and profit. Also, that $900,000 is going to be 1 giant tax write off, so both Acti and the charity win.

I understand that proceeds are general revenue and profit is the net gain.
What I was trying to get across is that Activision decided to mention the endowment even though this event would cost way more than they would gain in ticket sales, especially since the giveaway alone was more money than the tickets altogether.
The event wasn't a way to RAISE money for the endowment since the event loses money. It was just pandering so that it wouldn't seem like the multimillion dollar franchise that glorifies war wouldn't seem so bad if they mentioned how it helps veterans with this event.
I'm not typically vocal about that sort of thing because there are several charities that pander, but the million dollar giveaway irked me. Activision could have easily given that money to their endowment, but what I took from this is that they are willing to give away more money to CoD players than they are willing to give to help veterans.
