@echerringtonYAHOOCOM Yes I thought I couldn't afford to buy any games for a while but OnLive proved me wrong yet again. I picked up Batman right away.

Do what I do. Just disable notifications of people joining/cheering/voice chatting so you don't know when or if anyone's even watching.

Onlive is interesting but the compression method still leaves artifacts (I get 2 MBs down 100KBs)
A steal or not, I'm not going to bother. It's neat but it's far from an ideal solution. I don't see the appeal outside of being super cheap, possibly. But I'd rather spend money on hardware everyone once a year be it console or PC and enjoy it without hiccups.
That said, I'd love to see OnLive service built into the TVs in Hotels everywhere. About the only place I would put up with it.

@Mmmmz You do need a better connection than 2Mbps to have an ideal experience. 5 is recommended, currently 2 is the minimum recommended.

@philnolan3d He actually said 2MB not 2Mb. 2MB = 16Mb so he is well above the recommended. I notice the same thing on my connection which is 20Mb. I think my biggest issue though is the lag in controls. I can't figure out if I am just extremely picky or if I am far away from their servers. I heard it had gotten better in the past few months though perhaps I should give it a shot again and see if I notice any improvements.

Now THIS is how you kick off a service.
Funny considering I bought this for about 20 bucks this past summer.

OnLive seems to give a lot of stuff away for free or really low prices, which makes me worry about the long term sustainability...Although I guess this has sort of been their method for a while now, and it still works for them
Posted: Sep 5th 2011 6:38PM BookishOwl said
@bensmith91 they have already said that they are running in the black, that the service is profitable.

I wish onlive worked for me, I hate my internet connection. Though sadly according speedtest.net I got faster net then 70% of the people around me or some thing like that. :/

wow it doesnt work for you? my speed is like 5 mb per second and im able to use onlive smoothly; only downside is that every hour or so i get a tiny hiccup but besides that it works extremely well.

I got this game on Steam for $10, so if you hold out MS or Steam will be selling it for $5 after the sequel comes out or hell you'll get it for free when you preorder the sequel.
I don't know how OnLive works but atleast if either of those other two services go down I know I'll still have it on my computer to play offline.

With onlive you are doing the equivalent of remote controlling someone elses game system.
Pros: not your game system = not your upfront cost.
Cons: Play the game, capture the output, encode, transmit, decode, get input, transmit, react, capture, encode, transmit, etc until you are done. The encode trasmit decode to be near real time can degrade image quality and resolution. The input reaction time is impeeded by the latency of your internet connection and can cause lag that makes timing based controls frustrating.

Arkham Asylum uses GFWL. Though I own the Steam version I haven't touched a GFWL program after it absolutely RUINED Bioshock 2 for me. (Literally, as I couldn't log in to GFWL without a CTD, and it was impossible to save without logging in.)
So I'm considering getting this version because, even though the code is stored on a server farm god-knows-how-far away, it's STILL a better DRM system than GFWL.

Sounds good. However, OnLive doesn't play well monthly caps. Plus, my connection isn't exactly the best all the time

Yes, but the trick is that the OnLive team has spent a ton of money and time making GFWL work on THEIR system, so I don't have to let that poison touch mine.

If it was user error though...
Oopsies! Fortunately the adjacency of the comments makes it clear.

Monthly caps are pure garbage and should be against the law. Companies such as Sony, Microsoft, OnLive, Amazon, Netflix, ect should join forces and lobby to have bandwidth caps banned. The only purpose of those caps is to keep customers from cutting the cord.

@Ramen of Doom It doesn't work well with caps? They say they have worked out deals with most ISPs so that OnLive doesn't count against your cap.

Where did you read that? I highly doubt it... ISP's are tired of all these streaming service using all of this bandwidth. Almost all of them have these caps because of streaming services like OnLive and Netflix.
