Ha ha, I KNEW IT!!! They were just waiting for everyone that was on the "free 30 day trial" for PS+ to fully expire before they started releasing anything worthwhile... The last few months have had like what? One free game and maybe one mini game per month? And of all the ones that were free were not as good as any of these nor the discounts?

They knew what they were doing all along...

Well yea, its called Business.

You give them a tasty sample and then show them what other yummy things they can get, if they pay.

A lot of food court restaurants do this.

"Discounts are also headlined by Resident Evil titles, as the HD debut both Resident Evil 4 and Code: Veronica X will be half-price for PlayStation Plus subscribers."

Well that is super nice for anyone "picking those up".

As much as I hate Capcom right now, I can't help but give them money for these games (again). The fact that I'll be saving $20 total does make me feel a little better about it though.

They are giving away the directors cut too. Straight from the PS Blog:

"This month also marks a special occasion as we’re celebrating the Resident Evil 15th Anniversary with PSone Classics: Resident Evil Director’s Cut, Resident Evil 2, and Resident Evil 3, all free to PlayStation Plus subscribers starting 9/20, for 2 weeks only."

Its an HD "Remake" - Here is a bit of gameplay video.

If you already have the PC version or plan on getting it (its super cheap), I wouldn't recommend it though.

Gameplay of PC - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZHfDwJHISuI&hd=1

but for $10 on PSN+, its prob. worth it, if you don't have the PC ver.

Wasnt getting RE4 cause it was $20, I played it to death on the cube and was really only getting it for all of Wiis/PS2s extra content and a nice platinum.

But now its going to be $10 for me, I may pick it and code: veronica X the week after.. o.o

This is the best PS+ month ever, thats like $50 or something if your getting both HD remakes and you dont have the first three RE titles.

@tylerh1701 If you put them on your PSP though, they stay on that until you delete them. I stil lhave Oddworld 2 from the PS plus subscription, and it's still there even though I've downloaded new games since the free PS+ ended.

@Hoops Can you still play it though? PS Plus free content has an expiration date that matches your PS Plus subscription end-date. Doesn't that carry over on the PSP version? I know PSP downloads can have expiration dates as well.

Okay 'Stiq, question time. I bought RE1 last year on the PSN, and I freaking HATED it! I have never played any of the RE's before (other than RE4 when I bought my PS3) so I didn't have nostalgia to taint my mind.

Do they get better? Obviously I'm not asking about 4, that was a great game. But are 2 and 3 better, SERIOUSLY better? Or do they still suffer from the awful controls, awful B-movie cheese and boring gameplay?

I'll download them anyways, but I want to know if I should actually try and be excited about this or not.

2 and 3 are better than RE1 but they do still suffer from the awful controls and camera. You readjust to the bad controls and camera with time though. The B-movie cheese is watered down a bit as well. Definitely give RE2 (I liked it more than RE4) a chance and if you like it, then play 3.

You have to claim like add them to your cart and download until they get removed from being in the free section to download.

@squallgengar I think PvZ might finally be the first game that I wanted when it came out, but passed to save cash, and then got for free. Most of the other good free PSN games I had already purchased. Off the top of my head, I hope Slam Bolt Scrappers comes up free in the near future.

And I was wondering if anyone knows: If you do the PS+ full game trials, and end up buying the downloadable game, it automatically unlocks any trophies you earned during the trial, correct?

Now, if you do the full game trial, but then buy a disc copy of the game, do the saves still carry over and do the trophies unlock?

I'm going to be buying a PS3 here in the next few weeks and was wondering what exactly Playstation+ is?

You pay monthly for a limited period of free games that disappear once their time lime is up? And you also get discounts on somethings? Is that pretty much it?

Do you get to permanently keep any of the free titles?

Posted: Sep 6th 2011 1:40AM Epoque said

@EndynOmni They expire when your PlayStation Plus membership expires, and reactivate if you reactivate your membership again. Remain a member forever, keep the content forever.

The only free 'premium' content you get to keep are themes and avatars. Free PSN games, minis, PSOne Classics, and DLC all expire.

But yeah, that's the gist of it. You get trials of downloadable retail titles, early access to a few things on occasion, and decent discounts on full games and DLC. The discounts are really the best thing about the service, IMO, especially if you're someone like me who purchases tonnes of content anyways - so the free stuff is usually stuff I already have.

Looks cool to me although I care more about early beta access. I'm glad that my trophies are automatically synched without having to do them myself. Also, I like the new cloud-saving feature.

PS+ is getting better imo.

I got my ps3 a few days ago and I'm dissappointed in their download service 360 has over 290 full fledged 360 games no including xbla and have their first party games on the service. Sony however doesn't have many and most of them are old games. They need a better online service

Forgetting that buying retail is almost always cheaper than buying on Games on Demand or PSN's downloadable retail offerings, there's a good reason for PSN not having that many downloadable titles: Blu-ray.

Who wants to download 12, 18, or 20GB+ worth of data to play a game? Most people don't swap the default HDDs in their PS3s, and games that size add up. Most of the titles on PSN are similar in size to their 360 counterparts, with the exclusives running noticeably larger. The largest games on Games on Demand are less than 8GB, and there aren't any of the multi-disc games available (no Forza 3, ODST, Mass Effect 2, Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey).

Digital distribution of retail titles on consoles isn't going to catch on until next generation, or at least until console HDD sizes increase, consumer and network bandwidth increase, and publishers / console manufacturers wake up to how ridiculous the price disparity is between retail and their channels are.

I swear this is the first I've ever read someone actually complaining about this. Is there a reason you don't want to buy your PS3 games at retail?

Are you serious or are you having a go? Well, either way, they have some pretty good titles on PSN, just not overly hyped. And, hey? If you don't like the dl game selection, there are plenty of retail games you can check out, unless downloadable games are how you get your gaming fix.

I'll never understand this mentality it's not a actually free game, it's a benefit of subscribing to the service that's why when it ends you no longer are able to use the game. Every time I hear someone say psn plus gives free games I want to punch them in the tit.

Why do you have trouble getting that? It's like a gym membership. You pay the upfront 1 time fee, then a monthly fee. If you stop paying, you no longer have access to their equipment, pool, tanning beds, etc.
