I am looking forward to playing your game properly and I am glad you are on top of the issue, Techland, because the little I played was really fun. Just please make sure to fire the guy handling the PC release. I started becoming suspicious when the prompts for controls features an Xbox controller.

Often, the person who OKs the release is under the thumb of management to get it out, pronto! Does this mean it's still their fault? Yeah, sure it does. Does this mean that management should shoulder some responsibility? I think so.

Should the person be fired for it? That's a bit harsh. Do you really want to encourage a fall guy mentality? Let him or her learn from their mistake. If they make the same mistake again, then they can go.

i love how many people here were so butt hurt over this game review... i was LOL'ing my ass off how defensive people got over such a mediocre game. Now that i think about it, most people would defend a mediocre game like Dead Island but trash and hate another mediocre game like Call of Duty. Oh, the hilarity and hypocriticalness of this website is too much at times.

Opinions I tell you, they're such a pain in the ass. The world would be a lot more peaceful if people let review scores dictate their thinking. I mean really, there's no way in hell people could possibly enjoy a game like Dead Island and not enjoy a game like Call of Duty. I mean they're pretty much the same game and are comparable on the same level!

I wouldn't call Dead Island mediocre at all. You clearly haven't had four friends drive trucks across the island and have a giant demolition derby. All jokes aside though, this game is really fun with friends and with patches it can only get better.

Again comparing two games that are nothing alike huh? Well if arbitrary scores and ratings matter so much to you, look at your comments ratings. Following your own rule, your comments suck.

@PR0F3TA Except that whole part where the review covered single-player only extensively, and this is a game meant to be played with friends a la Left 4 Dead or Borderlands. Keep trying though!

Day one patches are always iffy, but at least it seems like the developer has it's ear to the ground and is trying to fix the problems! Unfortunately it's already been reviewed and may be a bit too late D:!

Well that and the whole "removed all instances of Butcher during escorts." isn't sitting well with me.... I HATE escort missions .....

Nothing is quite as fun ruining than having to tote around some gimpy AI that is hellbent on catching as many bullets in the face as humanly possible (in this case zombie teeth, that are in all likelihood still attached to zombie mouths)

Each developer is responsible for uploading a game to Steam. Valve doesn't keep a copy of the game and upload it themselves, the developer directly uploads it, and people download it then.

So what happened was this, "It's time to upload the game to Steam. You ready for that?", "Yup, I sure am. Oops, I uploaded the beta build."

It's happened before, a beta build going up instead of a final one.

I have seen games where purchasers were still waiting passed the launch time because the developer hadn't uploaded the game yet.

Why release a game that needs so many fixes on the first day it's released? I have nothing against the game or anything like that, but this is like turning in a project at work after the first draft and taking a red pen out while your boss is reading it. Why does any company think it's OK to do this to the people paying their bills?

@megapython vs gatoroid

Because the PC has suffered for years with a crippling "its good enough" mindset coupled with "ship now fix later" mentality. And more often than not the damage from shipping a broken game is in short order forgotten within a few weeks of the patch.

Don't worry console fans, now that your consoles can patch software there will be little shortage of half broken games for you too ^^ enjoy !

Really, they couldn't get any of this stuff fixed before going gold? Cripes, I hope this huge of a day one patch isn't a trend, so instead of delaying a game for even a week or two is thought of as pointless in favor of hardcore day one fixes.

(Yes, I know there's tons of day one patches lately, and I honestly can't remember the last retail game I played that didn't have one, but the games don't *usually* seem as unfinished as Dead Island probably is)

The review told me all I needed to - as impressive and gut-wrenching as the trailer was, this does not seem like the game for me. I appreciate a challenge, but my time to play games is limited. I don't need to be butt raped and enraged by every game I play.

These bugs, though, that's an awful lot of game balancing that should have postponed gold master status.

Wow, Techland is the new Bethesda! I read somewhere that it was like Fallout 3, I guess that included the bugs too

Looking forward to picking up my copy after work and downloading my patch. Read all the reviews and decided to get it anyway, we'll see how my gamble pays off. Hopefully it'll keep me occupied till Gears 3

Im assuming the console patch will release probably on friday. Just because there patching the other countries then, possibly a console at that point, i would hope. But from the console perspective, i havent really seen to many terrible glitches. Except when I ramped a truck off a NPC's head then proceeded to fly in the air as a airplane and drive around. Other than that, its been A-OK!!

Uh...that's a slippery slope. If the quality isn't assured (which is the job the QA deparment and is in the price of the game after all) )when that product hits retail, then the boat has sailed.

Otherwise, games will need constant re-review whenever a patch hits. And that just leaves the door open for further shoddy products to be released at $50 to $60 and just leave it to time to get better.
