"Yes, if you connect to online play will be required to pay the additional fee."

It's debatable if that means PERIODIC pay or a one off payment. If the game is fun and the price is pretty low, I might jump in.

@Nergy

Just curious how many times that, when a game that will be online only says that you will need pay a fee, means that you will only have to pay said fee once?

@Nergy I really think if it was a one time thing they'd just include it in the cost of the game and be done with it. The game outright requires an online connection after the first several hours. So you buy this for $50, get to that point and then pay $10 again once?

It doesn't make much sense to me.

@This Little Man Says His Name Is That was included in the cost of the game. I think that's very different than what's being described thus far.

I am excited for this game. Having a good online system would be great, I always wanted to group up with others in DQ9 but never had the chance.

I'm on board either way. I paid monthly fees for PSO and it wasn't a third as comprehensive as this appears to be (as long as those monthly fees are partially used to deter cheating, unlike how Sega ran PSO).

I remember those days. Running around with all my stats maxed out and weapons that shouldn't even exist yet

Fun times

So, then it's Dragon Quest Online?

Still very odd they'd choose the Wii for an MMO, but eh. Whatever floats their boat.

What's so strange about the Wii running an MMO?

After the first few hours you will have to go online?
. . . In the main story?
For single player?
. . . Okay then.

Any interest that I might have had in this game just went out the window. If there's one thing that I can't stand, it's games that require a constant internet connection. I've never purchased one that does that, nor will I start with this. Plus, the fact that the single player campaign has been pretty much relegated to nothing more than a tutorial is another reason why I won't be shelling out dollar one for this. I don't like nor play MMOs.

Between this, Final Fantasy XIII/XIII-2, and Final Fantasy XIV, I'm really beginning to believe that S-E really likes the feel of the winds on their face as they race down that slippery slope towards going under. How's that fail feeling, Square-Enix?

yeah, a drop and then mostly a recovery. Any investor that doesn't know FF11 has been the chief source of income for Square Enix for many years shouldn't be trading their stocks anyway.

@gevenstaines Way back when, there was this MMO called Phantasy Star Online. It was for the Dreamcast, Gamecube, and Xbox. What made it cool was that it had both online and offline play. On top of that, you could play alone or with your friends offline in splitscreen mode. In fact, I have the Gamecube version and still play it from time to time. Also, Phantasy Star Universe for the PS2, Xbox 360, and PC also had online/offline modes. Dragon Quest X only can be played online, even in single player mode. In other words, a game that's over ten years old already has this piece of shit beat by a long shot and then some.

Here's hoping the goddamned thing will follow the Last Story, Xenoblade, and Pandora's Tower and never comes out over here.

Anyone else more interested in playing the fake game than the real one? It worked with Mega Man, I would get Dragon Warrior X 8-bit version on PSN/XBLA/Wiiware.

"I can still trust Square-Enix to do the right thing when it comes to Dragon Quest. I mean they haven't pulled a Final Fantasy and run the series into the ground... yet..."

That was a comment I posted months ago. Time makes fools of us all.

はい、オンラインに接続してプレイする場合は別途利用料金のお支払いが必要となる予定です。

Hai, online ni setsuzoku shite play suru baai wa betto riyou ryoukin no oshiharai ga hitsuyou to naru yotei desu.

Yes, the plan is that a separate usage fee must be paid to go online to play.

Do you think they might not have a fee for online play outside of Japan, like they did with the Monster Hunter games? DQ isn't nearly as huge outside of Japan, and I think it might be a flop if there's a subscription fee. I for one won't buy it if I need to subscribe for online play.

i love how all the comments bashing the game are solely around the fact it's an MMO

do we even know anything about the actual game itself?

I'm still waiting to see where this sub fee is confirmed for ANYWHERE BUT JAPAN!!!!

geez, people. I mean, I must be way off base because everyone is chatting it up like a foregone conclusion even though no past history points to a fee of this nature outside Japan!

... what am I missing??
