At least they had the courtesy to wait until after the game came out before announcing DLC. God forbid you release the entirety of what you have ready on release day.

@gordogg24p ...so what about announced DLC that isn't finished content upon release? i.e. Gears of War 3

Should be on the disc or free if they've already been able to submit it for such a soon release.

agreed. i feel like i'm getting jipped when they do this. if you can have this ready to release less than a month after the game releases, it should have been on the disc. i'm ok with new maps and skins 2-3+ months down the road but entire game modes less than a month after release is not ok.

For crying out loud, is this game even out yet? They don't even pretend to care anymore. This is not only the norm now, but you people accept it.

Also, I just can't believe things like avatar icons and XMB themes don't come free with the games. You know.. sort of a 'thank you for buying this game.. here's some free digital items!'

I see you and I both have the same problem, of not understanding how game development works.
And we both also apparently have a sense of undeserved self-entitlement.

Just so you know, a game typically goes gold at least a month before the game is released. What that means is the game is out of the developer's hands, and it's off to the "printing press." This leaves the developers nothing to do except for... CREATE DLC!

Quit your complaining, and quit your sense of first-world self-entitlement.

Blah blah blah "entitlement"

the minute you use that word, your argument loses all validity.

This IS a bullsh*t practice that NEEDS TO STOP. I am so sick of companies telling us the day of a game's release -- or, more recently, months before -- about what ISN'T on the disc.

So STFU about entitlement you corporate fanboy.

Can't believe I'm reading this.

No, it doesn't leave the developer nothing to do.. They're assigned work on DLC because that's what they're told to do. Prior to the age of DLC, they would have began working on new projects.. Now they leave crews behind to cover the DLC that was unmistakably planned from the start.

The DLC defense force is astonishing.. it's almost as bad as the Nintendo fanboy legion.

What?
1. R3 isn't even out in Europe
2. Epic said they PLAN on doing by November
3. Doesn't everyone PLAN on doing DLC after the game is released?

Seriously get your facts straight before you start to even think about pouring out random BS.

So, if the developers of a game that people enjoyed and probably wanted to play more of made more of that game to play...then we are all stupid sheep for wanting more of it in the first place, and they are evil soulless monsters for giving it to us? Did I get that right?

I try not to stoop memetic responses, but U MAD BRO

1. This is releasing literally ONE MONTH after release. Yeah, sure, couldn't be at least free.

2. You know, I get sick of hearing "Let's give back to the developers" when these pubs/devs are greedy jerks who don't really care about the little people.

3. If developers whine so much about how they have to recoup costs...whose fault is it that the development budget ballooned out of control?

Oh, right. Mmm.

"Consumerism is a social and economic order that is based on the systematic creation and fostering of a desire to purchase goods and services in ever greater amounts."

More and more people are buying more and more DLC which is in turn leading to more and more DLC being made.

Seems very consumerist to me.

shouldn't hoard mode be free?? I know this is resistance and i know we are supposed to put the devs up in a pedestal but this is effing stupid in so many ways... i didn't expect Insomniac to charge for something as trivial as hoard mode.

You know, I get that a game goes gold months in advance of it being in stores. This means there's time to do DLC between then and launch, stuff that despite what people say probably couldn't have been included without further delaying the game.

But if it's something that's going to be ready at or around launch, it should just be free. It's ridiculous that we pay $60+ for a game then have to spend more money on launch day to get the full package.

true they aren't forcing anyone to buy it but his point is that he doesn't feel like he's getting the full package if that DLC is ready so soon after launch. i agree with him. DLC started out as a great way to keep people caring about a game but now it seems it's being exploited as a money grab. i rarely buy it and i feel jipped because of it.

Are people really bitching about DLC that's $4. Wow, it comes out a full month after R3, which means it still has a fair bit of development to go.. I doubt they even started the DLC until after R3 went gold anyway. The game comes with enough anyway, people should stop complaining.

So what happens to those of us that have minimal space left on our HDD? Once the free map patch comes out we have to frantically figure out what we want to delete in order to play again?
Then have to delete more stuff to worry about those stupid games that require free X amount of GBs in order to play?
I don't mind free content, just don't make it mandatory.

from a business standpoint, it makes sense for them to charge for a popular mode and for a few maps a month after the game comes out. From a consumer standpoint, it's awful. If it's coming out a month after the game comes out, they probably could have gotten it on the disc. The only reason why I can see Insomniac doing this is so people will be interested in playing online in a month. I enjoyed the beta but due to lack of money and 324324 games I still need to beat, I didn't pick this up. Since I did enjoy the beta and the previous installments, I assume I would enjoy this too, but by the time I know that by the time I get the game, there won't be nearly as many people playing. There'd be a good chance I wouldn't buy this DLC if I bought R3 on day one, knowing that there'll be few poeple playing it in 5 months, like KZ3, which was empty two weekends ago.

No one wants to buy a car and wait a month for the doors to come.

Ok I usually get pissed at this sort of thing but c'mon people it's only $4, plus we're getting two maps for free on the same day. If you ask me it's a great deal. A CoD game would've priced this at $10-$15 and they wouldn't have given the 2 free maps, you would've had to pay for them.
