Europe's Sonic Generations CE prevents your death with inclusion of a gold ring

If you're a long-time Sonic fan, it's likely that Sega has already gotten you with Sonic Generations, which celebrates the character's history. But now, the publisher has smartly guaranteed that all those same fans will upgrade to the new collector's edition -- by including a gold ring, something that every Sonic fan exhibits a Pavlovian response to. Ironically, it appears to be a paperweight, and thus designed to make things stop moving.

Along with that trinket, the set includes a statuette of Sonic and his pal Sonic, an artbook with unseen illustrations from the series, a 20th anniversary soundtrack, and a documentary called "History of Sonic: Birth of an Icon." Oh, and there's a PS3 or Xbox 360 copy of the actual game, and a DLC voucher.

This is even more stuff than was included in retail listings for the Collector's Edition. But a few important things won't be part of the deal: there won't be a Collector's Edition for the 3DS version, and there won't be an American release either. This is for Europe only.

Wow. That's actually pretty damn cool. Too bad i already sold my kidney for my Gears 3 EE and Skyrim CE.

They need to cut this out, I don't mind slight differences between regions but we should all get the same bundles if the game is within a small timeframe difference of release between regions.

Funny how some companies don't like money in every territory. I thought money was money.

Did some research on that one. Then read "This is for Europe only." which makes my research for naught. At least I learned something new!

I would've liked to get this collector's edition. I'm still not sold on the game yet, but all that extra stuff looks really cool.

I still have the 10th anniversary coin that came in the Dreamcast release of Sonic Adventure 2. Not having a ring to go with it is quite disappointing indeed.

Also, a DLC voucher? Sigh.

Every time a European gamer asks "Why don't we get this?" when an American/Japanese game comes out with a collector's edition, this is why. Because they get way more (and usually better) collector's editions than we do.

Not true. One or two exclusive editions like this don't make up for the hundreds of times we've missed out on pre-order bonuses, specific bits of content in a CE or the CE altogether.

Just look at Arkahm Asylum, Uncharted 3 or Mortal Kombat to name a few from THIS year.

I can name a shitload of times when the UK got better collector's editions than us. And some better preorder bonuses than us.

(Made up example)

Preorder bonus for UK version: Limited system sleeve (for a portable game), game soundtrack, or special box artwork.

Preorder bonus for US version: Cardboards cards.

There have been lots of times a game gets a collector's edition in the UK and Japan, and the US doesn't get one at all.

Here's an example where Europe missed out, quite a bit.

If you can really name this "shitload" then go ahead, we would all like to hear them.

Lately, there is a lot more CE being released in the EU rather then North America.

@Slight of Ham In addition to all of that, a good portion of the time European retailers include all pre-order content while the US pre-order content is broken up between several retailers.

As Slight of Ham has already pointed out a good number of them, I don't have to.

And I forgot about the retailer bonuses. You guys get many special editions with ALL of the bonuses. While we have to pick which retailer we want, and get one of them. If we want them all, we either have to buy multiple copies of them, put down multiple reservations and hope we get the bonus without being locked into buying another copy of the game, wait until they hit the in-game store and BUY them, or hope the developer feels sorry for us, and eventually lets everyone have them anyway.

So next time you feel like acting like a slighted person over ONE or TWO games, remember how many editions you get we don't even ever see.

@Softserve...Indeed, thats the one that burns me, paying extra for spread out dlc that another region essentially gets for free. I don't know if CE 's are just not profitable for sale in North America, or retailers just don't care enough to acquire them. Ubisoft is the worst at this practice.

A lot of games are playable in any region for 360, so it should be easy enough to import. I'd love to, but import price is a bit much for me... and the demo I played I didn't really enjoy.

This looks hella tight. Can't wait.

I forget what territory it was, but someone got that awesome OoT preorder bonus with the ocarina. Do want.

The package if lovely, but the question remains if the game is good. It would be disappointing to get more amusement from the trinkets than from the game itself.

Gonna have to violate some Europeans asap.

The GAME "special edition" is just the version that comes with the extra levels. This is a totally different package.

The Sonic and Sega facebook pages were laugh riots today but maybe Sega might see the demand is there and give it to you Americans.

@xFSUxBatman You can import pretty much anything, but I wouldn't recommend it. You'll usually end up paying way more than it'll ever be worth due to conversion rates and shipping.

No North American release makes me so sad :( Why does Sega not want more of my money?

Okay, I was one of the few on this site that stopped by their booth on PAX.

And then proceeded to ace both styles of play in that one level, granted it was EASY.

So, that being an ego booster, being the stupid american I am, was willing to throw more money for this.

No wait, I still am. Dammit Sega, you're doing the right thing with this gameplay (mostly) and you deserve recognition, but I'm not buying two copies!

I don't believe the "the US will surely get a CE too..." bit in the least. There was no CE in the US for FFXIII (yeah, I liked it, s*** it!) and for any SE release for that matter. At least for the games I tend to be interested in, the CEs are usually Europe exclusive...
