At this point, GTA5 could be in Amish towns or nursing homes and I would still be super excited...

A Grand Theft Amish would be pretty sweet.

All the excited me of stealing horse drawn carriages, kicking over butter churns, or looking at racy pictures of girls ankles in the game.

This ain't no Amish Paradise....

Same! Modding new shiny high resolution cars, text changing names to the actual names of cars, streets, neighborhoods ect they clearly are a parody of, and plenty of other stuff always makes that decision easy.

This sounds awesome... but then I remember the driving physics of GTA4, and I just don't want to do that to Vice City...

@Gibbeynator

That is the MAIN reason why I can't get into gta 4. The driving physics and to make it worse there isn't a code to change the driving physics like the other games.

There's nothing wrong with the driving physics they just enhanced the level of detail to the same level as the world around them. it still feels like GTA just with the added flavor of being ejected through the front window of your car in a high speed crash. You want to talk about crappy handling, go play Driver: San Francisco then comeback, you'll long for GTA4's physics.

That's cause they are... you dont think they actually went and remodeled and reskinned the entire game for free do you? That'd be ridiculous! It's basically "Vice City HD"; same geometry and textures just rendered at high res in the GTA4 engine.

@PN04 Hi-Res? The oroginal on PC already ran in high resolutions. The only thing doing this does is improve the lighting. But overall, it looks worse because the enhanced animations look out of place in that PS2 era world, and the transitions from low detail to high detail buildings is actually worse than it was originally.

I wonder how far into the project they were before they realised it was pointless?

Exactly what I thought... Why are people celebrating this when it doesn't look any better? I honestly was waiting for the part where it changed to the better graphics... lol

Wait a minute, everyone complained that Rockstar took all the fun out of GTA when they made GTA IV. So people are excited about a boring version of the original Vice City?

@The 7th Number

I hated the new engine in GTA 4, it made it way too realistic, I love the graphics but gameplay was so much better in the GTA 3 series of games so I'd rather go back and play those than a GTA 4 version of Vice City (or San Andreas) with the much better controls

This will probably end up dead like all the other "we put the city and stuff from GTA____ and put it in to the GTA____ engine". Very few mods have actually gotten as far as converting missions, traffic, ped paths, etc. This video appears to just have the map and cars done. You don't see any traffic, peds, or weapons. That may be the Christmas 2011 goal, but then you just have a map to drive around in with the GTA4 engine.

Or a million other songs from the 80s that aren't from a sh*t band like Cutting Crew. They might as well have set the trailer to something by Lionel Richie.

Pros:

- Improved lighting
- Improved animations

Cons:

- Glitchy low to high detail transitions on buildings, worse than in original game
- Higher detailed animations look out of place in this era PS2 world
- Improved lighting looks out of place in this era PS2 world.
- Removal of the seaplane as it's not supported by the GTAIV engine

Did they stop to think at all before they started if there was any point in doing this? Using ENBSeries already improves the lighting. This mod serves quite literally no purpose and introduces new problems. An improved texture mod would have been a far better use of time.

You know what's not going to come out this Christmas?

This.

And when it does come out, it will probably just be a map with spawnable cars.

The San Andreas Rage project looked the most promising, but again, probably will never be released.

It looks like they just imported all the models and such straight out of Vice City. Which you know, would be illegal to release.

I don't see this lasting.
