Ok uhh... disappearance? I haven't finished the game yet, is that a spoiler right on the front page? Please tell me it isn't.

@bm111 It's not a spoiler for the main game. It's just that the DLC is about.

It's not really portrayed as a "disappearance" in the main game, the screen just cuts to black and continues with "A few days later..."
I assumed he was in stasis or something, apparantly not.

@bm111 It's not really a spoiler, and that part the DLC fills has been largely incosequential for the story so far. Besides, they don't say how Jensen ends up like that.

And the glasses are not useless. They give him the augmented reality stuff we see as the in-game HUD.

@Joey Ravn Doesn't he have cybernetic eyeballs and neural augmentations? Where does it say that the HUD is projected on his "sunglasses," and the imagery isn't just inserted into the optical data stream between his eyes and his brain?

@bm111

This DLC still makes no sense to me.

Is this supposed to be explaining the time he's being transported in a stasis pod for three days?

If so why was that needing explanation? He's in transport. He's asleep and in stasis. He's hiding in a pod.

No mystery there.

@End User

If anything, the cyber-shades are there to draw some sort of visual parity between Adam Jensen and JC Denton (who also sported shades day and night).

It's pretty silly how they show that Jensen's shades are capable of retracting, but never put that feature to use.

For more on the matter, I'll direct you to an expert in the field: Corey Hart

The sunglasses are more of a reference to the original Deus Ex than anything else, which in turn was a reference to characters seen in the likes of the Matrix (the glasses, trench coat, attitude, etc).

That look soon become a stereotype for practically all characters designed to look "badass".

Jensen's glasses also retract in-game (not in cinematic cutscenes) in the last area when you finally catch up with Reed.

His "useless" sunglasses are what gives him the HUD and everything else we see in the game. The radar, the energy readings, the calls, some menus...

So I wouldn't call them useless. If he uses sunglasses at night, it's because his vision is augmented.

His vision is augmented, he doesn't need the sunglasses.

It was the same with the original Deus Ex. The sunglasses were never some source of his "power", they were merely for aesthetics. Jensen's eyes are clearly augmented, this is shown in a cinematic cutscene showing him being "reborn", as such. There's also eBooks (as the creators call them) that specify what parts of him were augmented, his eyes were one of them.

The glasses do not see walls, they do not display information on ranged targets or show how long until an enemy is off an alerted status. His eyes do this. Just like Paul and JC's eyes did.

The glasses are both a reference to the style of the first game, and the style of movies such as The Matrix series. Nobody needs the glasses, they just want to look badass.

Totally unrelated to the DLC but..... did anyone else notice that the voice actor changed during the game when you are trying to access the Police station early on? Its only for one line when you are trying to convince the whining ex cop behind a desk.....

Btw....game of the year contender for me and a defo buy for the DLC :)

Are you sure the voice actor changed and not just his voice?

There's no credit acknowledgement for two voice actors for Adam Jensen, and I highly doubt Eidos Montreal or Square Enix would bother to pay someone to speak one line of a character only to go back to the original actor again.

I've beaten the game, but even vague spoilers are unappreciated dude. That said, SPOILERS:

If you save right before the end you can just run through all the endings and get the trophy/achievement.

Seems like its nostalgia like MGS is.

Seriously dont get why people are freaking out about this game, Currently at the Harvesters Car park level.

Why do peoPle think if something is posted here, it would be spoiler? Anyway, story in DLC is that Jensen disappeared three days, and terribly acumentation is dismembered. He caught in ship. So he must get out of that ship, back to sarif industries to get augmentation back. Story is very simple.

The DLC seems less about the overall storyline and more about character development.

If the DLC is set in the location most people think it is, then it's not exactly needed for story continuity, because it can be simply argued that the pod hid his GPL tracking frequency, possibly so nobody knew he was coming.

The DLC isn't necessary for the overall storyline but character development isn't necessarily a bad thing.

DLC. This seems to be a side story that has nothing to do with the main story (which is why it wasn't in the game) and it sounds like Adam fails and feels bad about so it makes sense not to mention this to Pritchard when he wakes up.

@KingParappa Pretty sure when he says he fails in the trailer he is referring to the opening of the game before he gets his augments. That said, I am not discounting that he fails at something in the DLC as there is very little known about it right now.

The glasses are for protection during combat, according to the game creators. It is also a possibility that they were added to correlate DX1 with DX:HR, but I really don't think so. If that were the case they would have just put regular glasses on him, not visors embedded in his eyes. Also, they are suppose to only come out when fighting, but to do that in game would be a huge hassle. Just constantly retracting and covering every time there was a hint of danger.
