Eurogamer's Digital Foundry previously speculated what Team Ico's ICO and Shadow of the Colossus would look like in HD, but now they've gotten their hands on the real thing. Obtaining Bluepoint Games' conversions allowed the site to match up the PS3 and PS2 versions side-by-side.
"The good news with the PS3 version of Shadow of the Colossus is that the performance is much more consistent, with none of the sudden lurches between 30, 20 and 15 frames per second that characterized the PS2 original," the site notes. "Both Ico and Colossus on PS3 run at 30 frames per second ... and while we might have hoped for a locked 60FPS, quite why Ico can't hit that target is a bit of a mystery, the final code that Bluepoint Games has handed in ticks pretty much every box that Ico and Shadow of the Colossus fans would want."
Head on over to Eurogamer for the comparison videos for ICO and the full 13-minute Shadow of the Colossus opening.

I pre-ordered this on Amazon, and I'm still trying to figure out how release date delivery cost me $.98.

@Assmar They charge you 1$ for release date delivery. That's normal.

I never cared about the graphics, not on this game... while it looks amazing, its at the bottom on why i would buy this game again. Its mostly because i want to play it with better framerates (SotC) and because i was never able to find a copy of ICO. Now the next question is do i get it day one or do i wait a little.

@PR0F3TA - Ico benefits the most from the graphical upgrade. I've played my copy of Ico at it's native res (somewhere south of 480p, I forget the exact resolution), as well as upscaled to 720p on a PS3, and 1080p through an emulator on the PC. The difference between the native res (or upscaled on PS3) to 1080p through an emulator is shocking. The game looks absolutely fantastic in HD, while it looks like a blurry mess at its native res.
SOTC already looked fantastic. The framerate being more solid is the biggest upgrade there IMO.

You should check out eurogamer. Sony's trolling about MS right now. Crazy to read, the guy who's saying it is one of the heads of public relations.

It would not have bothered me if the GFX were still the PS2 graphics.
Its the core of these two games which I wanted on my PS3, now I soon will have them in my hands!
Exciting times :D

I remember when I worked at Walmart years ago we had about a dozen copies of ICO that sat in the PS2 game case and never sold. We had it clearanced out to $10 but they just sat there. I thought about buying a copy, but at the time I couldn't get past the box art. The games ended up being shipped back to the manufacturer, but I now regret not taking the chance. I will be picking this up so I can find out for myself why these games are so lauded.

You deserve a slap with a wet fish for not taking the risk, a risk that would have ended with you having a very broad, almost cheshire cat like grin on your face.
All for $10! Plus, those original cases are now collectors items I believe! Selling for loads on ebay!

Awesome. It's also got me pumped for The Last Guardian again.
However, NOTE TO KONAMI: GIVE US HD-IZED ZONE OF ENDERS SET.
As much as I love Silent Hill, and am fond of Metal Gear, Zone of Enders demands an HD re-release asap.

I hate the original ICO US boxart, and really wish they woudl have made a japanese art style insert.
also really hope whomever made that art was fired.
I own both these games, and i'm still buying the collection for the improved framerates alone.

I already bought my copy so the only thing this comparison does is reinforce how great these games looked in the first place.

I'm actually a little disappointed they didn't get 60fps. It's could that they can maintain 30, but I don't understand why not 60?

Locked at 30fps? Lol wtf? Even at 1080p that's a low framerate. Shoulda been 720p and 60fps.

I had no idea what Ico was back in the day and I noticed it in a bargain bin. I took a quick glance at the cover and thought the cover was completely disgusting so I checked the back and thought it was a kiddie adventure game. Will gladly pick this up eventually. I have to see why people love Ico so much.

its NOT a mystery why its only 30 fps. They WANT it that way because increasing the framerate would destroy the cinematic feel. The devs have already mentioned that and a film maker proved how framerates make a big difference when it comes to atmosphere
