Shantae: Risky's Revenge coming to iOS soon

Wayforward's beloved half-genie is escaping the bounds of her DSi Shop-shaped bottle and exploring another platform: iOS. Touch Arcade reports that the team is porting its 2010 DSiWare game Shantae: Risky's Revenge to iPhone and iPad "in a couple of weeks." It'll feature Retina-display graphics, though you should expect a sharper version of the DS game rather than some kind of HD remake.

The company is aware of the concerns forming in all of our minds right now about the controls. "Virtual D-Pads are my personal arch nemesis," a WF rep told TouchArcade, "so I'm happy to report that ours does the job incredibly well." Additionally, the game is being tweaked to be a little friendlier to virtual controls: "Platforms are slightly wider, chains dangle a little bit closer to the player's grasp; enemy behaviors are just a bit different." Furthermore, it's "optimized" for those weird Fling and Fling Mini joystick attachments.

I wonder what the pricing will be.
They won't be able to sell it for what 12.99 like it is on the eshop, if they actually wanna see good sales for it on iOS.

Very, very nice. This is one of the best things that came out of DSiWare, and more people experiencing the awesomeness can only be a good thing.

First they put it on DSi, to be hidden away. Now they're putting it on iOS with inferior controls. Whose decision was it to not put it on PSN/Xbox Live?

After playing BloodRayne, I have zero faith in Wayforward's ability to get the controls right.

I love this game, and great that it'll be available to a new market... But iOS? Why? Everyone thinks they've "got it down" for virtual controls... But evey iOS and Android game I've played that used them was too much of a chore to be fun.
Seriously, a PSN or XBLA version would be much better than this.

By "dumbing down" the game for iOS, this reminds me how Team Meat likened today's mobile games to the Tiger handhelds of years past. Sure, they have the familiar franchise, but it's a watered-down experience.

Awful game. So glad I played this on my colleagues DSi during a flight to Tokyo. Was on the fence but it just isn't as good as those it rips off. Namely Castlevania and Metroid.
