Completely of our own design and not at all a major rip-off of something else, the Joystiq Non-Joystick Joystick prototype is coming along smoothly, as you can see from the totally legit and not-at-all doctored photo above.
Play-testing is underway, and it's a lot more capable than our previous attempts at a joystickless joystick, but we're still having trouble recreating 1-to-1 movement with the new design. Frankly, the subtle design flaw causing the problem eludes us, and if we don't figure it out soon we may have to abandon the project entirely.

3DS appears to have found it's sweet spot with this price.

Definately better, but definitely not the gangbuster nintendo was hoping for. I think the major games will move more units though. Still, much improved.
Interested to see if the PSV does any better sales wise though.
Bring on TGS I say, lets see what both sides have in store for the future.

Glad to see the 3DS selling better. I don't yet own one myself but these sales should mean many more games down the line.

I'd also recommend, at this point, to wait until the announcement this week. If they rumors are true, in addition to the Circle Pad attachment, they'll also remodel the 3DS to incorporate the extra inputs built-in.

Try making it four buttons for the directions, perhaps something like this:

Just maybe, I think they might be on to something.

3DS sales are still pathetic, but it clearly has more to do with crap all software more then the price.
Which is why I'm sure NoJ is pushing for a Monster Hunter in Japan.

@The Aquacharger That would be up in the air on whether it's doing well or not. I say no, you say yes.
Nintendo SAID no before.
My guess is it's still not an acceptable level and/or I know that sales will sky rocket when they actually get worthwhile software out, NEW software and not just decade+ old games.
Or maybe Nintendo is satisfied with the sales, I dunno. lol

Nintendo said "no" because they were expecting an exact copy of the Wii. They were expecting the 3DS to not be stocked like the Wii. So the set that as their expected ammount to sell for their reports. That's why Nintendo said no. If you take a look at other handhelds when they launch 3DS isn't doing that bad. Hell, even compared to some home consoles it's still doing pretty decent.

It's likely that just like over here a lot of stores are cutting the prices on the games that are currently available to boost sales. I mean it's not worth buying a cheaper 3DS if the games are still (perceptually) overpriced.

I wonder if the Playstation 2 will die next year. There's still a couple games due for release this year. It's quite pleasing to still see it sell.

Unless they get BC running again, it's the only way for a lot of folks to play older games. I may need to pick one up after it's next price drop just incase my 60 gig ps3 ever dies.

I refuse to go back to a PS2 simply because of the fact they still make them with the same faulty lasers that were known to ruin games.

The guy who designed the laser for the PS2 and 1 was fired because of that reason. My PS2 destoryed so many of my games it's pretty sad. I like the PS3 for it's wonderful laser, and long distance PS2 gaming.

The Joystiq Non-Joystick Joystick gives me much joy, but it's a sticky issue that non-Joystiq Non-Joystick Joysticks might be cheaper without the branding and all. Bad knockoffs make me siq.

Something similar to that came out in the 90's for the SNES...or was it Genesis? It was made for fighting games and was market as a way to not get thumb blisters. XD
I remember reading it in a magazine years and years ago. It was either EGM or Nintendo Power.

3DS sales are pathetic because tablet/smartphone gaming is cutting into them and will never recover. There will be hardcore gamers that will stay with regular consoles but a good chunk of casual gamers will probably never return to traditional consoles.

I wonder if the "handheld game market" really exists in the smartphone/iPad era? Kind of sad for those of us who prefer Legend of Zelda and buttons to Angry Birds and touchscreens.
It would be interesting to see the dollar sales figures for iPhone/Android games vs. other platforms.

I'll tell you what your subtle design flaw is: you're using the Infogrames-altered version of the Atari fuji, rather than the original (which they've now gone back to). That screws everything up.
