I agree. There's a surprisingly small amount of innovation in videogames.

You know, whenever I see a thread on a forum asking what type of game you would make, I see "wartime journalist" pop up surprisingly often. So this looks like a pretty cool game. I'd imagine it's like Pokemon Snap, but with guns.

They should add predator surveillance in this game if they REALLY want to make it realistic. And maybe some bombing

Dammit, I was really hoping no one else made this connection.

I was gonna say Pokemon Snap: Modern Warfare

Why would they be recording in 24p?

@Mr Hett That's the frame rate. Most films are shot at 24 frames per second (or 23.98 if it's NTSC and want to get technical).

I know. They're not filming a movie. They should be filming in 60p, or at least 30p. 24 is way too low.

But this is news not cinema so it should be 30 fps, 29.97 if we want to get exact.

Really cool idea, and here is hoping that at know point will i be switching out the camera for a AK-47. Also in the multiplayer you can get flimstreaks and get to upgrade your camera from a simple cellphone cam to a big old 5000 camera :D!

@powerrangerporno Also you can pay for extra, 1 day crew members. How about a sound guy for 400$? Or a Guide for 500$? Oh goody im making up multiplayer that doesn't exist!

I thought that too. Perhaps it's a karma system? You can help people in need and miss your opportunity to get the best pictures or you can ignore them and get the pictures you need. The better your news report, the more "success" you have with your western news affiliate, netting you more money or some reward, while helping those injured or dying will merely serve an intangible moral victory while getting your employer rather annoyed at your lack of pictures.

Personally, that's what I'd angle for in a game like this. Just going around snapping video while having no real impact would seem pretty shallow. Depends on what kind of budget the developers are working on, though. With or without, I'm still very interested in this game.

As a videographer myself, I think this is a cool idea. Plus I hope to go into war videography some day, for at least a little bit.

I kinda think the game should not be a full stand alone game though, but a game mode or "character class" that exists within a big budget game like BF3 or COD.

actually, a protect the videographer mode would be a blast in the next big name FPS.

Both teams could protect their cameraman as he films the capture points or hot zones etc etc for x amount of time while trying to stop the other team from down the same.
Dang, Now I want some royalties!

Interesting idea. I wonder if there's a bonus level where you get to edit the footage and cut out all the violence for American TV, and only who the bad guys taking casualties?

Just like the real media.

this would be a really cool kinect game. raise hand to face to start filming. lower hand to change control scheme for moving around extensively.

maybe have a reporter mode, where you face the camera and talk about the story. (seeing yourself in a video playback monitor, augmented reality style)

hope someday we see "gears of war: reporter"

RIPOFF!

TF2 has had an unlockable camera helmet and the Replay feature for months. I can run around and record battle all I want! I can even do a "director's pose" and let the enemy know I'm filming him. I can't believe they ripped this off, and expect to make an entire game off one feature from another.

Note, the above is a JOKE, and should be taken as such.

so why it´s not funny?

and free camera existed way before tf2. no joke.

You know those people you have to explain the joke to, and then it ruins it?

You are one of those people.

I was trying to be ironic. Not ACTUALLY date an in-game camera. If you want to get that !@#$ing literal, Mario 64 had a visible in-game cam in '96. And the ability to record in-game footage using an in-game option existed at least as early as Quake.
