Kid Icarus: Uprising delayed until 2012
33
Nintendo announced this morning that Kid Icarus: Uprising's flight to retail has been delayed until 2012. According to the publisher's note, the development team for the 3DS action game determined it needed more time to complete the game. Is it enough time to incorporate the functions of that elegant analog add-on?
Nintendo also announced it is developing 3D Kid Icarus cartoons with "critically acclaimed" Japanese anime studios. These animations will be available for free on the Nintendo Video service to 3DS owners worldwide.

Wow Nintendo really seems to be hurting now!
This game was supposed to be a launch title!
Reggie even said at both E3 and other gaming events it wills ship this year and now it is not!
I'm starting to lose my faith in Nintendo or maybe it's my faith in Reggie as he misguides us sorta like the wizard in Oz "Don't look worry about the man behind the curtain!!"
If they continue this way the 3DS will not do as well once the Vitia comes out!

Clearly somebody hasn't been a Nintendo fan for very long.
Remember Ocarina of Time? Not OoT3D, the original N64 release. Yeah, if that's not a grand example of Nintendo and schedule slips, I don't know what is.

We're discussing Nintendo here, though. Super Smash Bros. Brawl, anyone?
Reggie at E3 2007: "We hope you'll all anticipate the worldwide launch of Brawl this holiday season".
...Released on March 9th, 2008. In Nintnedo's case, if you haven't seen glimpses or even felt the sheer presence of a certain game when online, a delay is inevitable.

This certainly isn't the first time Nintendo has delayed something. I just think nowadays we get so hung up on announced release dates and patches that fix built-in glitches that we forget that delays used to be the norm, but the finished product in many cases (not all) tends to be worth the wait. I'd rather wait for something good than have something bad get rushed to market.

For sure. They don't want to cannibalize the sales of Mario 3D and Mario Kart, uh...3D.
Oh, and you were right, of course I bought StarFox.

now i hope they improve the graphics all those jaggies =/

@eilegz
The jaggies are an inherent product of blowing up a 320x240 screen capture to a much larger resolution. You don't really notice them when it's in motion at it's native resolution, and even less in 3D mode.

@bigwhiteyeti That screenshot is about the size of my iPhone's screen. Unless the screen of the 3DS is 1/4th the size of the iPhone 4, those jags are probably very noticeable.

@mguniverse but the resolution of your iPhone is higher than 320x240 and the resolution of the pic itself is higher than 320x240. It's the resolution difference not the size difference that adds the jaggies that aren't normally there.

And Nintendo's stocks just went down another 5%. Not really surprised.

SAKURAAAAAAAAAAAIIIII!!!!!!!!!
That actually felt good to bring back. And since this will inevitably push back SSB4 we can look forward to this same song and dance for another 5 years or so.

Strange to say, but I hope they DID delay it to make it compatible with the second analog control stick. The existing control configuration is not lefty friendly :-(

That 3DS Lite is looking more and more likely with each 2012 release/date.

If they do implement the analog add-on for this game, I REALLY hope it's optional.

Because it's not like the 3DS library desperately needs an infusion of fresh games or anything.

The point I'm trying to make is that Reggie made a promise it would make it this year!
He even told Jeff Keighley of Gametrailers that it would make it this year. So now to find out that it is delayed is a big lie.
As that game was one of the reasons I got a 3DS.
To me it just seems they rushed to get the system out and didn't plan very well as they wanted to beat the Vitia to market.
When you have a system with no games it makes people not want to buy it and they even had to drop the price on the 3DS to drum up sales as people were not willing to pay $250 for the system.
I just feel Nintendo is starting to become line MS and hype up stuff only to let their fans down and I'm gonna seriously think twice before pre-ordering a Wii U now!

@lazerbyte Um, why would you be under the impression that Reggie knows anything at all about anything (except PR)?
Personally, the game looks like it might be okay, but I can't see why it would be a system-seller; still, whatever floats your boat. It'll still come out eventually.

This is so very much not the time for this bullshit from Nintendo. Can no one and nothing light a fire under their asses?
The Vita are iOS Generation 5 are breathing down their necks and a slew of sexy ipad games (using Unreal and other beefy engines) are almost ready for market and they need to delay a game as simple as Kid Icarus?
Seriously when do they finally get scared and start trying a whole lot harder to impress?

I'm never against a developer delaying a game as I don't want half-a$$ game (like Brink) being released.
But the only reason this makes me cringe is now I know I won't see a new Smash Bros game till at least 2017. Anyone remember the developers surprise from E3? You know when they announced a new Smash game and the developer was like "we are?"

Not to be a troll, but wow, visually that game looks horrible. It isn't even out yet and looks about 10 years old.

@Dickhole Pasta Ok i'll be more mature in my response. The game, visually, looks extremely dated for a game that hasn't even come out yet.

Why are there quotes around "critically acclaimed"? Production IG (Ghost in the Shell, The Sky Crawlers), Studio 4C (The Animatrix, Tekkon Kinkreet) and Studio Shaft (Le Portrait de Petite Cossette, Puella Madoka Mag whatever) all have a number of critically acclaimed productions under their belt.
