They should add higher priority stuff first, like make the friends list actually useful by adding messaging.

Yes, I agree. I wish they would do an overhaul on the online/shopping experience because I just can't stand the navigation. You would think they would take a hint from all the great UI's that are being created for mobile devices. I do not want to see a gaming handheld become a smartphone/tablet computer, but, you gotta admit that Nintendo can greatly improve the software by taking some hints.

Yup; This.

I'm going to pray that this is coming. Because seeing the orange light tell me that one of my freinds has come online navigating to the freinds list to see who it is. But then being unable to tell them to come online in Street Fighter 4 REALLY annoys me....

@Papsky I read someone that the update will bring changes to the online shop, but since I have little faith in Nintendo in that regards, I'm sure it'll still be a pain to navigate.

According to a few other sites the update is supposed to the eShop, add more games to the plaza, and a few other things.

I visit joystiq everyday and little by little, through no fault of theirs, I regret my 3DS first day purchase more and more.
So far it has been the worst Nintedo Handheld I have ever owned and I don't think I even played more than a week.
It's sad to see they dropped the ball on this one.

And on topic, 3D video capture is something nobody is gonna use for more "let me see what this is all about then."

I've said this before, but you probably said just about the same thing when the DS first came out. What did you do with it the first year? We got Advance Wars and Nintendogs up until Mario Kart and Animal Crossing came out. There is a ton of great looking games in the next year for the 3DS.

nope...why would I? I didnt by the thing. I just figured that would be something they shipped it with. They should have waited to release the 3DS until it had enough games and the firmware was further along. The 3DS is going thru the same issues that Windows Phone devices are, released an unfinished product and add features as it goes along. Both of which still lack that "killer app"

Aren't a lot of devices today unfinished? The PS3, 360, PSP, the iPhone? Almost everything is still constantly being refined and upgraded even years after their initial launches.

I don't know about you all, but I love my 3DS. I skipped the DS and DSi, so I have a ton of old games to catch up on. And I've been digging through the DSiWare vaults and found some unique games I am really enjoying, especially Metal Torrent (a bullet hell shooter).

The 3DS has plenty of stuff to keep you occupied. Handheld gaming is meant to be played in short bursts anyways. I love the Virtual Console, I love watching Netflix on it, I love the gyro controls in Ocarina of Time 3D, I love exploring the eShop for new and interesting games to download.

DSiWare may have a ton of crap, but so does Apple's App Store. You just need to dig deeper to find the good stuff.

@tendoboy1984 So you're saying the only things you use the system for are games for older systems? That's all I use it for, too, which is not a glowing endorsement. I could have saved myself a lot of money by sticking with my DS Lite.

I'm hoping Super Mario 3D Land, Paper Mario, Kid Icarus: Uprising and Mario Kart 7 live up to expectations. Thus far, the best cartridge games are N64 ports.

@baritowned OMFG, THIS! I feel like I'm the only person who had a crapload of apps transferred from their DSi to the 3DS. I layout changer "helps", I guess, but I prefer being able to see the icon images clearly.

I'm tired of people bashing the 3DS for having a bad launch day I still had fun playing nintendogs and cats and we has SSF4 in 3D then we had Ocarina of Time 3D and now we have Star Fox 3D the AR games are fun Faceraiders is pure fun we have the 20 free games for people that bought it early. We have Super mario 3D land coming, Kid Icuras, Paper Mario 3D, an new Fire emblem, Mario Tennis, Mario kart 7 and Super Smash Bros All coming to the 3DS within the next 3 Years. The 3DS is doing better than the DS did on launch year. Im not a nintendo fanboy. I play PS3, Xbox 360, PSP all equally and i love them, and I plan to buy the PS Vita but the 3DS is not that bad people. I hope i have made my point to you in the joystiq audience

Finally, more street pass stuff. They REALLY dropped the ball on that, considering neither of their big, high-profile post-launch titles included any SP capability whatsoever. I mean, I'd have even taken a new puzzle with Zelda and Star Fox since I haven't been able to use my coins for js in weeks.

Then again, touting the hell out of a feature and then completely dropping support for it isn't exactly a new concept for Nintendo.

Seriously Nintendo, you want the 3DS to be a success? Here it's easy:

Fully 3D Pokemon RPG for the 3DS like all the hand held games before it, but also has a camera item so you can run around and take photos of all the Pokemon you see using the 3DS gyro sensor ala Pokemon Snap. Then people can exchange them via street pass etc.

Seriously why isn't the only thing you develop?

Too bad the 3DS cameras have resolution that would make the first CRTs look good.

Idiots.

Because the cameras work so well as it is right now that all I could think about is, MAN! I wish I could capture grainy video too!

Nah, I never wanted to watch my own videos with common codecs on the system. I never wanted the browser to be improved (which is admittedly decent considering the platform and Nintendo)

I never wanted what everyone else here is saying.

Thank you Nintendo, once again you prove that you clearly are out of touch.

The browser is actually surprisingly good imo. It's very slow but perfectly usable for looking up game walkthroughs (can't think of a reason to use it for anything else, really).

Don't care about video recording (or playback). I want more hats though. :)

There seems to be a lot of blatant negativity about Nintendo (of which some is understandable), but come on guys, seriously? Us hearing that you now "hate" Nintendo, and the fact that there are so far "behind", doesn't negate the fact that Nintendo will continue doing whatever the hell they want.

In addition, they will print all the money they want, because if they build it ... well, you know the rest. No amount of comparisons to the previous DS launch games and the fact that Nintendo has dominated holiday sales for the last 5 years will ever get through to you people, so here's what I propose:

You can mope, complain, and be miserable in those cold winter months, while I get cozy with my wonderful hot chocolate and stack of 3DS games to play through (not to mention my 10 free GBA games). Deal? *Fantastic*

You seem to share Nintendo's arrogance and/or optimism that they're just going to win again by (bravely) default. Yes, Nintendo will do "whatever the hell they want", but that route hasn't always worked out for them. When it works? They're rolling in cash. When it doesn't, they'll ride the sinking ship all the way to the bottom in their own stubbornness.

The fact that we actually seen a 3DS price drop was a shocker. It'd be nice if they continued with the surprises.

Yup. Like most people, despite my frustrations, I don't want to see them fail. Where is gaming without Link or Mario? However, it is interesting to see what the most stubborn damned company in gaming will do under pressure. Going their own way with Miyamoto's wacky ideas likely isn't going to be enough this time when kids are playing Angry Birds in utero.
