The Diablo 3 'Skill Calculator' lets you roll your class, sans Diablo 3
29
With not so much as an official release window from Blizzard, fans have learned to be patient when it comes to all things Diablo 3. That's why the availability of the game's "Skill Calculator" will likely be met with a disproportionate amount of interest. It's simple really: You go to the Skill Calculator page, select a class (get a refresher on the various classes here), choose six "active skills" and augment each with its own runestone, choose three passive skills.
When you're all done crafting what you consider to be Sanctuary's most powerful Wizard, you can copy that in the form of a link which you can bring back here and share with your peers (and by share, we mean rub their noses in it). By the time you're done rolling one for each class, maybe we'll have a date ... actually, we're not going to get your hopes up. But the complete and total absence of a date shouldn't keep you from playing make-believe with the Skill Calculator. Look, a Wizard!

I was excited for Diablo 3 like 6 years ago. I'm not saying I won't play but It could come out in 2027 and I couldn't care less anymore.

Really? Really, Blizzard? You're getting a little ahead of yourself, there. Seeming to forget that while it's nice to roll a character for your game... it doesn't make much sense if you STILL HAVEN'T ANNOUNCED A RELEASE DATE...

Except for the hype it generates, right?
Just because there is no release date for a game doesn't mean that giving out info on the game is unnecessary.

It's nice to know that we all can get our spreadsheets and start doing a bunch of equations to find out the maximum value of a multi-variable system.
And they say games don't teach you anything.

Ooh, this will definitely cut down on the amount of time spent closely analyzing the skill tree the minute you finish creating your first character in-game.

Looks cool, but to me it seems there just isn't enough skills to pick from.

That's the most asinine thing I've heard today. You're lucky I just woke up. Jokes aside, that really is an absurd notion. There are 29 skills with 5 modifiers each along with several passives to choose from. There are literally billions of active skill/rune/passive combinations when you do the math.

@stiqlol 25 x 24 x 23 x 22 x 21 x 20 x 5 x 5 x 5 x 5 x 5 x 5 x 12 x 11 x 10 = 2.629935 × 1015

2,629,935,000,000,000
OR
Two-and-a-half-quadrillion unique wizard builds, not taking into account builds which include skills that do not have socketed runes

That actually wrong because you're not taking into consideration that you're only allowed 6 actives and 3 passives at a time.

I accounted for that in my expression. The first six numbers account for active skills, the next six account for different rune modifiers, and the last three numbers account for the three passives which cannot be modified. Its been a long time since I took math in school but I'm pretty sure that checks out. If the expression is inaccurate, I'm sure that the actual number would be larger. Also a correction: I meant 10 ^ 15, but I think you can't write superscript on joystiq

You chose a passive ability Illusionist that only affects abilities you didn't choose---Mirror Image and Teleport.

Certainly a nice to attempt at building a character, but I just don't see the point unless I'm actually playing and get to experience what everything does visually. Then and only then would I be able to decide on the type of playstyle I enjoy.
A lot of the builds sound awesome, but they may not be as fun as ones' imagination is playing it out to be.
And I bet Blizzard announces Diablo III's release date at Blizzcon, and while I'd love to see it this holiday, I bet the release date will be Feb 29th 2012! You can only claim that unique date once every 4 years...

Wow, those skills are amazing. Each skill changes depending on what rune you put in - in such a dynamic way. They really put some work into this... You'd think the rune would be, "+5% speed of shot" or "+2 damage". But it's like, instead of an arrow you shoot a demon that goes underground and attacks. @*$%!
