Sounds pretty nice. Wonder when Sega will localize this and release this in the United States.

I want to play it!

If I remember correctly, an upgraded version of PSO was available on 360, no? I couldn't get into it due to the fact that the whole time I was thinking about how I was paying $30 a month for it. Only played it for a month :p

@KGameLover1
Just to clarify: that's fine for a PC game, but when I paid for the $60 game + $100/year Live + $30/month, that's just too much!

'PSO ep. 1&2' was on Xbox and 'Phantasy Star Universe' was on Xbox 360. You shouldn't have been paying any more than $10 a month for monthly subscription.

In what universe are you paying $100/year for XBL?

I get what you're saying, they're different games.
Regardless of Online or Universe, Phantasy Star is Phantasy Star. They aren't the same game, but they are the same brand under the same company.

It's called a Family Pack, ever heard of it? (It was originally $100, since I pay for 3, I jumped at the chance... Then the next day the price was lowered :/)

@KGameLover1 Maybe you're not good at math, but that comes out at $25/year for LIVE. Which is pretty damn awesome.

I really hope they localize it, and keep it away from subscription fees. I played the living hell out of PSO on my Dreamcast, but when they released the expansion so they could put on a monthly charge I abandoned ship.

Agreed. MMO fees on console should not be allowed - or should just be minuscule fees. We already pay for Live, I don't want PSU's model again.

@KGameLover1 That's like saying MMO's shouldn't have fees on PC because you already pay your ISP.

PSO/PSU shouldn't have had fees because they weren't MMO's. I'd wager Sega hasn't wised up though and will try and charge for PSO2 as well.

Even Blizzard isn't charging for Diablo III and they're owned by Activision.

@KGameLover1 Once again agreed. I find subscriptions of any form annoying, and it's one of the reasons I don't care for XBL. It's easy to ignore stuff like WoW and all the pay-to-play MMOs on the PC but when something I legitimately love and have waited for for years comes out with a subscription I feel devastated.

I mean, hell. I didn't even play PSO online. I played it offline with several friends in split-screen, which was one of the funnest co-op experiences I've ever had. It'll already be a shame not having that in the sequel, but a subscription on top of it would make me want to forget PSO2 even exists. :C

@Jennacide

I did the same thing. Was there when PSO launched, loved it, skipped version 2 when they announced a P2P price model. And the really sad thing is, Sega never really adds anything to compensate for the monthly fee.

The game was always a glorified Diablo and should be marketed the same way: Pay for game, play online for free, optional pay for expansion later down the road. With DLC working how it has been on consoles the past few years, no reason why Sega shouldn't do the same thing.

Look at Oblivion. Bethesda probably made more money through DLC than Sega did on PSU subscribers.

@Scuffles Mags are confirmed to be in the game(not in the Alpha client, however), and the purpose is unknown as of now. Speculation is that they will fulfill a similar role to PSO.:)

I know they sorta re-added them in PSU portable but they were just something you sorta arbitrarily found and that was about it, no real depth.

Think a huge part of the replayability in the original was raising Mags. They were also did a great job of decluttering my inventory of all those pesky atomizers.

@Scuffles I also hope mag raising comes out. I hope by using the name "mags" they mean those, not the partner machinery in PSU.

OK. I have to come down now...
As recent as a few weeks ago I was seriously considering a
handwritten letter to Sega/Sonic Team to do a new PSO, that
would like the original.
I think this is the first time I've actually been excited by
gaming news.
Just do away with the effing subscription fees and release DLC instead.
I'd buy the hell out of DLC for it.

When the PSO 1.5 came out and they announced subscription fees
I thought I might continue to play. Sega said it would never cost more than $5/month. On the games release subs. were now 9.99 a month.
Sega said they had sold the servers, or something like that, they
no longer had control over sub. prices.

Thought, screw that. If I'm going to pay monthly to play a game I'll
something that might be worth it. Which led me to Asheron's Call
then WoW and other MMO's.
So I'm blaming that on Sega. ha

FYI... I don't think this will see release off the PC really. Japan is definitely planned for PC only, and if anything we get less here. I'm just hoping it gets localized(and some half-decent hack prevention).

Basically, my plan is if PSO2 is localized, pay the sub on that, and then just play Guild Wars 2 for my hotbar-centric MMO fix.
