Blizzard sending out Diablo 3 beta invites
31
Checked your inbox yet today? Blizzard has sent out beta invites for Diablo 3 to the lucky chosen who opted in through their Battlenet account. If you've got one, log into your Battlenet account and download the client now. Like, now now.
Didn't get an invite? Well, first step back from the ledge -- Blizzard will be handing out beta keys through some upcoming promotions and giveaways. So exercise a little patience and just watch a bunch of YouTube videos until your time comes.

Don't fret. The amount of public games hasn't changed very much leading to the common belief (and logical belief) that the first wave was VERY VERY tiny. There will be more waves over time...but who really cares about a short beta? Just take this as confirmation that the game is coming out this year. They said it wouldn't make it this far unless things were going smooth. The game is done, it's just server testing. Get ready for a release date at Blizzcon. I predict Oct31st or Nov 20th.

To everyone else, if you didn't get an invite, don't freak, they are doing them in waves.
One guy on a fan site said he heard the first wave was only to press. So that might explain why there aren't many more public games.

Oh, and I wouldn't say the game is done. considering they are completely rebalancing the Demon Hunter's earlier skills.

Hell I already get daily mail telling me the WoW account I havn't played in like 5 years is going to be suspended/canceled if I don't fork over all my personal info ........
Hell looking through them, its sorta sad.... most of them don't even try anymore ~.~

@Scuffles I get these aswell, infact probably 30-40 a week lol I even get them for games i've never played such as Aion and Eve Online.
I remember one the other day telling me i was 1 of 5000 that have won a rare ingame mount, fair play they used blizz gfx and the domain and other than the abvious bullshit URL (they used a .TK domain LOL!) Was the epic quote "we pick winner from lucky get random" seriously, at least try and use english and some basic sentence construction.
A multi-million (billion?) pound company isn't going to goof up that much, maybe mispell a word here or there but not like that.

Yeah, I used to get lots and lots of those, they kinda disapeared... I think they gave up on me or something... But I remember some really really fake e-mail like those but once I received a PERFECT e-mail and I almost, ALMOST fell for it... It was a small error, I think the e-mail adress had one letter missing or something and then I didn't send, but I SWEAR the e-mail was a perfect copy...
Still, my account is safe (but deactivated) and sound :D

I'm not normally one to be one of those people complaining about the content on Engadget/Joystiq...but you guys are a premier gaming news site and you posted this like 5 hours after it was news. I think you all are relying to much on just parsing your RSS feeds and not actually actively looking for stories like you used to. I gave up submitting news years ago because I don't think you guys really care. I guess you all are just a news aggregation site these days, which is kind of disappointing.

@TexRob I would assume the editors have a life outside of their jobs. so they can't post 0 second post. Maybe you should go read Game Informer?

I've been a Blizzard customer since 1998, own every game since then, and always have the beta settings checked on and stuff. Never gotten a beta invite for anything. ;_;

Have you actually, you know, logged into your Battle.net account, ran the system spec profiler, and checked you were interested in betas?
Won't get in unless you do. Go do it now, this isn't the only wave of invites. And the system spec profiler needs to be rerun whether you did it before or not.

Wow, so Diablo 3 actually has a chance of being out sometime this century? Amazing!

Indeed, though even with all this information I'm not letting my hopes get up and am sticking to my Dec. 2035 release date.

I heard rumors that you need either a active WoW Account or a Starcraft 2 Key to get into the beta, is that true?

Yes it's a fact they want you to own one of their recent properties, so if you don't have SC2 hope you're playing WoW! I'm glad I do have SC2 that way I don't have to resubscribe in the hopes that I get an invite :D.

@Grimbear13 I'd love to see your source. It seems pretty foolish to actively steal players from their own games when there are plenty of us who are huge Diablo fans who don't play SC or WoW. I know that it will happen some just because, but it just doesn't make sense to go out of your way to make it happen.

Hoping my choice to opt my MBP instead of my Phenom II X4 PC pays off.
BTW, does anyone know if there is some form of digital distribution so I would only need one license to play on my MBP and my PC? Not at the same time, obviously, but just in case I want to game on the go.
