Yeah! And in EBA, all you do is tap the screen! WTF

@FuzzyPierce

The difference is in EBA and Ouendan you actually have to have increasingly good manual dexterity, because you type in so many different kinds of arrangements. From what I see of this game, it looks like no matter what you're just slashing away at the bottom screen regardless of what arrangement it looks like on the top screen. At least, that's what JC makes it sound like-- that the arrangements are purely superficial.

Correct me if I'm wrong, though. I'd love to be wrong in this case.

If this turns out to be as challenging as EBA, coupled with the Final Fantasy music this'll be one of the best games of this generation. Truf

I'm probably going to be flamed for saying this but I would prefer if this was a $2.99 Android/iOSgame.

It sounds like an awesome concept but no way in hell is this worth 40 dollars.

No, you're right. From what I can see, this game doesn't seem to contain too much content to actually deserve a full, physical release.

I think, however, that using that type of logic can apply to all rhythm games. Elite Beat Agents and Rhythm Heaven didn't have an incredible amount of content, but they still deserved a physical release in the end. They were great games once given the chance, so this game can fall in the same criteria.

Come on now...that would mean more than 2 good games on the eShop (including Cave Story). We can't have that!

But no one complained about EBA not being $3 DSiWare game...?

If you want it for $40, buy it (plan on it myself). If not, then don't. Why is this relevant? Of course everyone wants cheaper games.

I'm just worried there isn't enough content to warrant full price.

See, this is the giant issue Nintendo and Sony need to address with the 3DS and Vita. I'm sure you've read all the recent articles about how iOS and Android are taking a large chunk of the mobile gaming market share. A lot of the same games on DS are now on the iPhone for a quarter the price.

So YES, I think going forward Elite Beat Agents will be a hard sell at full price.

And thats a lot of wishfull thinking on the part of the authors of those articles I say.
Is there any proof at all that iOS and Android are taking a large chunk of Nintendo and Sonys handheld market? Any proof at all?

"A lot of the same games on DS are now on the iPhone for a quarter the price."
And do you think those games would have had the budgets they do if they were only going to be sold on phones for a few bucks? It was the promise of the money they would get from selling the games at full price.

Read. Weep.

I'm sure you're still not willing to accept that as truth, but you have to admit things are changing. Nintendo can't expect us to buy the simple DS games (like Meteos for instance) for 40 dollars.

If you ask me things are changing for the better. We'll hopefully see games with a lot more substance at full price.

I dunno... you remember what they did with Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King?
People went crazy over the "unlockable" DLCs.

...they do it on eShop, expect more of the same.
At least on retail, they put the full product.

Sony and Nintendo's share of the market has gotten smaller, I see that. But that wouldn't mean much if the size of the market itself grew would it? It does not necessary mean they are selling less.

Nintendo has not sold less handhelds sinse they have been "competing" with convergent devices like Iphones. Nintendo has sold more then ever.

And the Psps has sold reasonably well also.

EBA had to pay music publishing as well as the development costs, so that probably adds to it. (Of course, that doesn't apply to this game, since Square already own the music.)

By the way, nobody pays $40 for 3DS games anyway, I assume. I mean, actually I get UK games on that platform where the prices are different, but I assume it's the same in the US: you'd actually pay $30 with free shipping from any online store for any new 3DS game, right?

For this game whether it's worth it depends very largely on whether the gameplay is good. It certainly sounds like the 'non-gameplay bits' (ie cutscenes from FF games) are nowhere near as good as in EBA/Ouendan where you had the cute, funny comic stories in the breaks, so it has to rely on just the gameplay bits.

Talking of 3DS music games I think they announced a... ugh forget her name... the Vocaloid idol singer... music game for 3DS, right? Don't suppose that will come out in the US, though...

Can't wait to see the playlist of this game and what characters will be in there, should be fun.

And before anyone says "WHY IS SQUARE ENIX WASTING THERE TIME WITH THIS WHERE IS MY FFXXIIIXI"

This is being developed by a different company and has NO influence on the production of other square enix titles. So anyone below this comment who says it is going to look very silly.

Unfortunately the lack of a "town" gameplay type (wow, reminds me of FFXIII) means it's probably extremely unlikely.

@yab Masashi Hamauzu certainly didn't do a bad job either, in fact, I'd say he did brilliantly.
Hitoshi Sakimoto did OK too, but it was probably the weakest of the soundtracks (XII)

Hearing people say games like this and EBA should be sold for pocket change makes me really dislike this MEGA BLOCKBUSTER or cheap flash game direction some gamers want gaming to take.

Balthier!!!

But yeah, if there are varying difficulties and many characters/songs to choose from and the summons and treasures actually do things, then this game will be dope like EBA was.

I don't get one thing:

Why every screen of the game I see is a wide screen 16:9?
The touch screen of the 3ds is a 4:6, no?

Time be-a changing.

To start, If you go on any of the sites that sell games you'll notice that every none blockbuster game, for the most part, has hit a price point of 29.99. This includes, Tetris, Frogger, and all of the above. This game is what I feel falls into that catagory.

The 3DS offically has 2 different price points, 1 for Casual games for everyone, and one for the blockbuster titles, basically anythig first party. If EBA was to be released today, would 'I' still buy it if it was 40 dollars. probably not. From iOS and Droids games selling marvelously well I couldn't even think of buying a game like this for 30 dollars, let alone 40. It's just seems to bland to me. I'm not saying make it 99 cents. But with addicting games on iOS selling at that price point ex: Groove coaster (which is i think now 2.99) these companies need to step up their pricing scheme, it just doesn't make sense for the average consumer to spend a super amount of money on a game like this anymore. Also Gabby's Groove is also on this list for prices lowered to $30 MRSP, these companies know it hard to sell a game at this price point now at least on a handheld.
