I'm kind of tempted to just buy a ton of cheap games to win.

Sounds cool, unfortunately I have already purchased from them the one game I was personally interested in ~.~

Watch that counter freeze at the 5,999,998 mark, because everyone is watching it to try and get the "free catalog" prize.

I like me some GOG, but it's so hard to play them with such a large backlog. I'll get Broken Sword: Shadow of The Templars Director's Cut, but I dunno if I'll ever play it. Unless it's super crazy awesome.

Make your online money now? You should get something to cover the part of your URL up. What's this ".com"? What ever happened to shady extension like .nz? or .scam?

Missing those.

It's never worth replying those things. Then it gets yanked and you reply is left floating in the ether making little to no sense. Bummer.

I wonder if they mean 6 million downloads, or 6 million sales. I've downloaded multiple copies of some games (desktop, laptop, work).

Answered my own question by going to GoG:

"Note that when we say "unique games downloaded," that means redownloading games that you have already downloaded before won't increment the counter."

So if you bought a game, but never downloaded it, then that should count.

P.S. The free game is only worth $5.99 normally... They should give us the Witcher 2 for free.

Somehow I'm not surprised that there are people complaining about free games.

It's free quit bitching. Also, they don't owe you anything it's not like you earned the witcher 2 or anything, you're lucky you get a free game to begin with.

I'm just thinking about if I owned a service that was about to hit 6M downloads. I would want to give my active users something that was valuable, something that was new and popular, not something that was released 3 years ago and now only costs $6.

Do you not understand the fundamental basis for a service called Good OLD Games?

Guess what, I didn't call it bad. I called it old. You don't seem to understand. When you celebrating something like this, you don't give away something cheap and old, even if it is good. When Apple hit 1 billion downloads on the App Store, they gave away a ton of NEW iPods and Macs that were worth TONS of money, they didn't dig up some iPhone first gens and some 3 year old iMacs to give away.

Why would Good OLD Games not give away a Good OLD Game? Everyone gets it for free. It's not like Apple gave every user on their service an iPhone 5.

I don't see why people are even trying to reason with this guy. You get a free game. Enjoy it.

Geez. Is it really that hard?

Another note! For their third anniversary, all D&D games on GoG are %60 off for the whole pack, and varying savings depending on how many you buy.

So seriously, now is the time to finally buy Balder's Gate, Icewind Dale, Neverwinter Nights and Planescape Torment.

Oh yes, Baldur's Gate, II, and Throne of Bhaal. So many well spent hours as a child... one of the few games which almost brought me to tears at the end of the series because I had become so attached to my group.

The problem with them giving out a high priced game are people like me. I admit I haven't played any PC games in like 10+ years except for FFXI. Everything I play anymore is on consoles because I dont keep my PC up to gamer specs.

However I have downloaded steam finally when TF2 went free. I downloaded it but haven't played it yet. I also grabbed Portal last week because it was free. Some day I might play it. I will likely sign up for GOG simply to download this free game.

I admit to being a freeloader when it comes to PC games simply because I have more than enough games on my console to satisfy all my gaming needs. I dont pirate games but I do take advantage of free ones. And I am sure there are a lot more people like me too. So who knows how much GOg would spend on bandwidth and other related costs for people like me. Better they give away a smaller game that is older and perhaps less desirable than a more recent game that would use a lot more bandwidth and overhead.

28 of those downloads are mine. I reckon with the counter going it will reach 30.

Curses and drats GoG.
