Looks interesting, but I still miss the old XCOM games. I know UFO Extraterrestrials filled the void pretty well, but it does seem odd with the change from Strategy to this. I hope it works out

I'll remain optimistic. Who knows? It could turn out great and prove us all wrong.

And there's always Xenonauts, if you're longing for the original. Still in development, but it looks like a promising recreation/update.

The misuse of the franchise's name is a tragedy, but the real tragedy would be that if people don't play a good game because of it. This looks excellent, and as an old UFO diehard, I can put any titular misgivings I have behind me to give this a go. It seems like it will be a fresh take on the otherwise stale first person shooter game at the very least.

I'm also really looking forward to Prey 2 and especially Syndicate though, so perhaps I'm a little too forgiving to be called a true fan.

@Epoque

Glad you have an open mind.

People have to remember that the only constant in this world is change.

This game is not XCOM. Stop calling it XCOM already. Name it something else and maybe people will play it.

@urgan

Yeah no kidding, this is not X-COM....its just pathetic when developers take such an amazing IP and destroy it by doing shit like this!

I would much prefer a remake of the original X-Com or Terror From the Deep using today's technology instead...

I really like the concept that it's an origin story for how X-Com came to be. It's a clever way to set the story in the 1950s while focusing on what could be an interesting set of characters. I like the idea that they may not know what they're up against, or may not be smart or powerful enough to overcome it.

First they came for Fallout and I did not speak out because I did not play Fallout. Then they came for Xcom and I did not speak out because I did not play Xcom. Then they came for Syndicate and I did not speak out because I did not play Syndicate.

Then all games were made as FPS's and there was no other genre left for me to play.

First they came for Metroid, and a lot of people spoke out because they loved Metroid ... and lo, it was beautiful, and Metroid Prime has gone down in the annals of history as one of the best video games ever made, still debated upon between series fans as to whether it or Super Metroid best represent the series.

Fallout 3 was great, I loved it, and I'm a HUGE Fallout 1 & 2 fan (Wasteland is top 10 material to this day for me). It may not have the same standing with fans as Metroid Prime in relation to its past entries, but it's still a great game. Starbreeze is the best of the best, Riddick and The Darkness are 'genre' redefining games, so as a HUGE Syndicate fan, I expect nothing less than an extraordinary game. I've already shared my thoughts on XCOM.

But let's also look at another maligned game at the time of its release. It's not an 'FPS', it's just Mega Man Legends. Of all the series in the Mega Man franchise, Legends arguably has the most devoted fanbase ... and it turned everything on its head save for the 'pew pew'.

Sorry for looking too much into your *seemingly* lighthearted, and admittedly humorous and highly enjoyable post.

Sounds like you weren't playing any games to begin with. Maybe that's why they turned into FPS

I'm getting excited for this one. Loved the original game, but nothing's been able to touch it since. Many have tried. If they want to take it in a new direction, I'm cool with that. It does have that "birth of the organization" vibe to it. Bunch of misfits chosen to fight an enemy that the higher-ups may still be denying even exists.
