Does....This mean they fixed all of the initial problems? Or, did they ignore them?

I'm actually asking, don't feel like digging around.

They're not ignoring anymore. The new head in charge is very active, every now and then he releases a "letter to the community" letting people know what's coming next, and from the reactions he knows where the issues are.

The problem is, there are a LOT of them to get fixed.

Fixed isn't the word I'd use. Changed some of the problems, yes, but nowhere near fixed for most of them. And they changed some stuff that shouldn't of been, like adding an auto attack back in to combat to "resolve balance." Which didn't help balance, but like FFXI, gave you even less shit to do in combat.

And their attempt at fixing the no AH or mailbox is straight up hilarious. The game is still so broken it's not worth touching IMO.

I think they focused too much on making the game "pretty and whimsical" and forgot what was truly important. ...gameplay.

...the game is pretty though.

The game is a thousand times better than a year ago. They're still ignoring fundamental and impacting problems, such as the complete lack of linkshell (guild) management tools and party search and grouping features.

It's at a point where you can easily and enjoyably play solo but it's still very difficult to get together with other people.

Ultimately, it's still not very fun.

do you know what would really get my attention back to FF? a good game with no stupid teen issue. a mature FF or at least a refreshing and charming adventure like FFIX or yes, FFVI, FFV, FFVII, or the great FFXII

@Therion It would be great to have a Final Fantasy product that isn't some sort of angsty teen game. As far as I'm concerned it all went downhill after kingdom hearts came out.

It's sad, but FF14 was proof of what people already suspected happened with FF12 going to 13. SE took everything they learned from the previous entry, and flung it out the window. All lessons from 12 were ditched in 13, all lessons from 11 were ditched for 14.

Only SE would think this is a good practice.

I just want the series to lay off the futuristic settings (X, XIII) and go back to something more along the lines of IX or VI where technology is limited and it's more like, you know, fantasy.

Sorry, but fantasy does not just mean swords and dragons medieval style. It's so played out as a trope that I don't even pay attention to most rpg's like that anymore.

FF13's biggest issue was the game was so delayed they seemingly cut out the story to get the game shipped on time. The settings were fine, overall.

FFX wasn't really futuristic ether, it was more post apocalyptic. Most of the technology was little more advanced then the magi-tech found in other FF games.

All the series needs to do is get back to making the story and the characters the focus, and not the graphics engine.

In a way, Final Fantasy 12 (and generally the whole sub-series of "The Ivalice Alliance") does follow a half Fantasy and half Technological society.

On one side of the world of Ivalice, here we have Chocobos, Moogles, Magic, Airships, and Crystals. On the other side of the world lays more man-made structures, people using guns, steamships, etc. from the influence of the Clockwork City of Goug. (a city which manufactured objects with methods one can only imagine similar to the 1800s Age of Industrialization in America)

1) No, that's almost exactly what the genre entails. It doesn't have to be dragons and whatnot, but it usually does entail a more medieval setting. FF13 is more accurately Final Sci-Fi 13.

2) FF13's biggest problem wasn't that it was hurried and made the story shit (that didn't help), the biggest problem was that the game is not only criminally linear until almost the end, but that you can LITERALLY auto-pilot every battle. Something nobody can argue, as there is tons of proof on YouTube of the cast Libra -> walk away 'strategy.' When the game plays for you, you're just watching a shitty movie.

3) Not futuristic? The game opens with a 500 ft sphere of water used for a demented hybrid of water polo meets football. A sport that is played for the rest of the game, and glorified repeatedly. The first two areas strike of post-apocalyptic, but from then on goes very much into sci-fi territory.

Because the game actually requires *gasp* THINKING. That, and Final Fantasy is mainly an older teen game series. Hence, the whoring of these teenage protagonists.

I sure hope that was sarcasm. Because hell no it isn't. ...At least it wasn't until the tenth installment came and shat all over a good series.

It's sarcasm, but not the for reason you're implying. Airships weren't long rides in the previous titles, they were quick transportation. The knock is at FF11, and waiting upwards of 18 minutes to reach another capital by airship. You'd have to wait to catch an airship, which were on 10m rotations, and sit on the ship for 8 minutes. Boats were even worse, going from Mhaura to Selbina could take 30 minutes if you miss a boat right as it leaves.

I refuse to accept a present where that kind of thing is a reality. :/ To me, the series ended with 9 (notwithstanding a brief semi-reappearance at 12, damn that game would've been epic if it had given us real flyable airships).

Yeah, the first time you take the boat and it's attacked by pirates it's novel. But then it gets old fast. And the airship flight served no purpose other than time sinking, as there was never anything to do on them until 2 years later when they added the really stupid Guess Who? mini-quest.

You know what else was in Final Fantasy 7? Jumping. Cloud was pretty good at jumping. There were scenes where Cloud jumped a lot to get to places.

But I mean; as stated by the FFXIV devs, why would one need to JUMP ever, after all, you're never going to GO anywhere.

Chocobos... FF14 is pretty cruel about that.

There's a NPC at the starter areas with a chocobo nearby, if you interact he'll say there aren't chocobos enough for everyone.

The game honestly is coming along quite nicely but there are still huge problems to overcome. According to the dev team they're perfectly aware but it's taking time to rework those key systems. Considering how broken the game was at launch I believe it.

I'm honestly surprised they're still trying, especially now knowing they have a competing MMO coming out. Yes, because the best way to get your failed MMO to make money is by releasing another MMO that directly competes with it.
