Company of Heroes franchise 80% off on Steam this weekend
15
To celebrate its fifth anniversary, the Company of Heroes franchise is 80 percent off this weekend on Steam. When Relic developed the original game those many years ago, the WWII setting and RTS scene were both feeling tired, but Company of Heroes delivered a fresh take on the aging genre and delivered a graphically gorgeous experience that still holds up. You can own the intense, immense campaign now for $2.
If you're willing to spend more than a gallon of gas for tens of hours of refined RTS entertainment, the original game is bundled with expansion Opposing Fronts for $6, and with the Opposing Fronts and Tales of Valor expansions for $10. If you have any interest in the RTS genre -- even if the WWII setting is a bit of a turn off -- don't miss out on Company of Heroes for $2.

Alpha Protocol is mildly entertaining from what I've played so far in the past few months.

I got the complete CoH pack in January 2010 for 75% off. Also picked up the complete Dawn of War 2 the last time it was on sale. Both are by relic but DoW2 is different, and it's captured my attention more.

I like DOW2 more as well. Being more focused on just a few units kind of makes it feel like a Diablo-ish game, only in space... With guns... And armor...

Buy the Gold edition of Company of Heroes and the first expansion, then buy the 2nd expansion by itself ;) Saves 40p off buying them in the complete collection and even more and 37p off buying them individually!

Bought it nearly 2 years ago (on a Steam sale!) but could never get into it. Some part of my brain doesn't understand how to play RTS. I just don't seem to have any tactical awareness. Plus, when I play games I feel like I'm doing something wrong if anyone I'm controlling dies, so playing RTS is a difficult mental hurdle for me.
While I liked the idea of setting up your position, like securing the town centre or a bridge, I found it got really quite boring doing so. And then the mission starts 5 minutes later and I panic and lose and it took so long to set up I think '**** this, I'm not wasting any more time doing all that again.' :-/ I end up spending an hour or more of my day (which I don't have) to achieve nothing and feel stressed while doing so.

That's why I usually just play RTS games on easy. They've never really been my forte, but I enjoy the gameplay. Saving frequently helps as well.

Is this the best offer this game had? I think it had a 90% off a year ago, 'cause on the fifth anniversary it should have the best offer, no?
