@Coldpillow

Maybe the target audience just isn't there. I'm not sure the WiiU is really "different enough" from the Wii to pull Wii owners into the mix very quickly. This platform will develop much more slowly, and games brought to it early on besides the obligatory first party games will probably not get the best sales.

Don't get me wrong, Nintendo will do just fine with the WiiU - I think with all the power they have in the thing, they could easily make a new market for those that weren't ever interested in the Wii (people like myself). Just saying this platform will most likely take time to grow, a lot more than the Wii did. Bring Skyrim to the WiiU maybe a year after release with a lower price, and you have yourself a winner.

this doesn't get my adorable little hopes up because the Wii U's controller looks terrible for real games. I read somewhere that the sticks are just like the slider pads on the 3DS, and the arrangement of the sticks above the buttons as well as the general shape of the controller seem very uncomfortable and not fun.

But, I guess this is cool

I believe the Wii controllers (remote + nunchuk, classic controller) are also supposed to work on WiiU.

And I don't know how Skyrim gameplay controls, but the 'tablet' controller could be particularly good for games with many action options such as RPGs; essentially, where you might have needed to go into a menu or inventory screen to choose something or other, that can now be available directly with a single press.

However I suspect the Wii U system was still a bit prototypey when it was shown last, so let's see if they change the controller before release...

More likely to cause a problem is the rumoured Wii U delay. It's probably going to come out a LONG time after Skyrim and by that point will anyone still care?

Basically, I don't think it is really very likely that there will be a Skyrim port to Wii U, but hey, if they prove me wrong, maybe I'll even buy the game (the character designs are still terribly ugly/bland, but apart from that it looks pretty great).

@aray48 damn, so many down votes for thinking the wii u controller is awful for hardcore games? man, i don't know if its fanboys or just people with high hopes. also, i don't like any of the other nintendo controllers for hardcore games. they just don't feel right for it.

Most of the press impressions from E3 of the controller were positive, so not sure where you're getting this from.

@ColorblindMonk and @Raffi256
many people have played with it and held it, clearly you have never heard of this crazy event called E3. I read on a few sites that the sticks are like slider bars, which are not very ideal for most games on consoles today.

@Vuvuzelas I haven't read anything particularly favorable other than the fact that it is intuitive. Also, this article is interesting http://wii.ign.com/articles/117/1175666p1.html

It basically explains that the circle pads should be analog sticks and that the triggers are not really pressure sensitive, but are just buttons.

sooooo yeah, everyone who downvoted me is just ignorant -_-

Well damn, I'm fairly impressed by Nintendo this time.
The 3DS looks like it'll be pretty great by summer next year and with Arkham City, Assassins Creed, and Skyrim as a possibility for WiiU who knows, I might hop on that too.

which will probably (like 90% of released games this gen) be 720p instead of 1080p. This is something I'm looking forward to with the Wii U, playing games at 1080p instead of 720p.

Wow. So people who don't own a modern game console are going to wait two years just to play it on a new Nintendo?

I mean, don't people who own a Wii already have a PS3 or X360? I don't understand why Nintendo is gonna put out all the games of 2011 on a system that won't be available until waaaay after those same games will be budget-bin for other consoles?

1) Plenty of people (me included) don't have the other systems. Depends how many games you want to play; if you have other things to do and are cool with playing games only sometimes, not every week, it works out.

2) 'Nintendo' is not going to put out any of the games of 2011 (on a system that probably comes out late in 2012). Those were all third-party games. It's up to third parties if they want to put out those games for it... or not.

3) I suspect that in addition to Skyrim, many of those other claimed games on the third-party-support promo reel will likely not appear on WiiU for the reason you state (people who own other consoles won't be interested). Instead it's possible that the next games in those series will have a WiiU version. We'll see. Probably some of them will happen... (See also the 3DS third-party promo video...)

The reason why the WIIU is doing that is because they don't want to miss out on any of the awesome games that are coming out this year. and they will most likely still make a profit because there are hardcore Nintendo fans out there that will be willing to wait for the WIIU to come out before they play the awesome games that are coming out this year.

Yeah, but no companies like to port from the 360/PS3 to the Wii, so it would probably be a similar situation between the WiiU and the new consoles.

Skyrim will be the first and last Elder Scrolls on a Nintendo console, as the sequel will be running on NEXT gen hardware, while the there are doubts the Wii U will even be up to PS3 level.

But you can console yourselves with playing all the other great current titles in 3 years' time and all your wonderful updates of Mario 64 and Ocarina of Time.

Fool me once, shame on you...

I love how people love to go on about how Nintendo is exploiting Mario 64 and Ocarina of Time when in fact, each of those games has been "updated" exactly once, and on a handheld no less. Or was that a backhanded jab at their sequels? Because if that's the case, I hope you hold every 5+ year old franchise under similar scrutiny.

I don't know why you should pity him, there are enough great games on the previous gen of consoles to last the average player (who doesn't buy 10 new games every month) through this one, at least. And nearly all the best games this gen that aren't Nintendo games are on the PC, anyway. In fact now that I think about it, if you have a Wii and a PC you're pretty much covered.

So yeah. No need for pity.

This isn't really exciting at all. What's the point in waiting for a Wii U version when I can just buy it immediately when it launches on my PS3, 360, or the best version on the PC?

Third party support is great, but only when all the consoles are on even footing. Like in 2006, when we were choosing between all three consoles and they were all on equal footing, all fighting for your attention in getting new games that could not be played on hardware you (likely) didn't already own. Getting third party support on a new console for games you can play on consoles you already own isn't anything to celebrate about. I'm still getting the games on the consoles I already own, no need to buy a new one.

While that may be the case, the point remains that people will wait for a game to come to a different system.

Plus, it'd be likely to be the "GotY Editions" of the games, if they're coming out on Wii U a year after the PS3/360 versions.

You missed his point. They only wait for a game to come to a different system if they own the hardware that's getting the delayed release. It makes absolutely no sense to wait for a console to release so you can buy a game that's got a delayed release on it as well, especially when you already own hardware that will be able to play it on launch date.

Nobody in their right mind would say today "I already have a gaming PC/PS3/360. I'm mad excited for Skyrim...but I'll wait until the Wii U version comes out".

Assuming that this would come out perhaps a year after the original release, it would probably be a GOTY edition. That sounds pretty sweet, actually.
