Not sure why this needed a separate application. Would have been much cooler if they just redid the entire PlayStation store like this.

@Epoque

true. it would be cool to search games, demos and add-ons this way too.

I suppose part of it has to do with making it more noticeable by making it something new and separate. People that never go to the store might not have noticed the change but now they will

@Epoque More than likely they're going to. They do seem to be doing this in stages, opening it up to PSN+ subscribers first.

@gangcar Haha. Seriously.
Though i have to admit, Kings had an amazing concept and great potential and should have been given some more time.

I had completely forgotten about that series "The Cape". They had that huge marketing campaign for it and then.... nothing.

Not trolling but yeah...the PSN interface and performance needs to be much better before I'll consider actually paying for it. Also, the game updates and download times need to happen faster. A LOT FASTER.

@iceveiled

pay for what? it's free. are you talking about the interface of the videos after you pay for them? because honestly that's second to none. searching scenes in a video on a PS3 is as good as it gets.

the performance of what needs to be better? I'm so confused

I use my Netflix streaming mainly through PS3 and I haven't ever purchased or rented anything from the PSN video store. It always seems a bit pricey for HD content.

@Goldenspiral

Same here. I've gone to the video store a few times to look at what's on there, and renting an HD movie for $5 will just never seem like a good deal to me.

it's not bad for new releases. I sometimes rent SD movies for $3.99 or $1 if it's on sale. It gets up scaled and it certainly beats the price of 4 people going to the theater or buying a bluray or dvd that I would only watch once.

I can't imagine why anyone would buy a movie on there

If you want to watch a new release and you have a Redbox nearby, PSN video service becomes completely obsolete. $1.50 for a blu-ray rental. I wish the digital distributors would realize who their competition really is and work with the movie studios to get their prices lower.

ahh yeah, no red boxes near me. my options are vudu, which is walmart so I'm not crazy about supporting them, Hulu, which has ads so I hate it, netflix, which is ok but the wait times around here for new releases can get a little crazy. so for me the PS store is one of the better options for new releases.

Wow, this is actually very cool. I'm generally kind of opposed to these kind of things because they never seem to improve the overall functionality and user experience of the console, but for PS+ members this definitely awesome.

Why the hell does Sony make these sort of updates (also included are background updates and background trophy synching) Playstation Plus exclusive? The PS store layout is garbage, and needs exactly this sort of change. With my Xbox, I feel like they give me additional services for my money. With Sony, it seems that they're withholding basic functionality and asking me to pay more to use it.

I love my PS3, but this kind of stuff always bugs the crap out of me.

So you read the first sentence of the article and that was it? This update is for everyone. Plus members just get to see it first. You don't have to pay for it.

I didn't really care for the change. Sure it looks better, but I think it's easier to get around with the current menu choices. As for the price of it's rentals, I don't think it's anyworse than full HD from Vudu.
