Shank 2 announced during EA Vegas press conference, coming 'early 2012'

Electronic Arts is hosting a gaming press event in Las Vegas this week, and was promising the reveal of "at least one completely new title" and it looks like that title is ... Shank 2?
In EA's liveblog, when asked "Is this the 'new ip' ?," EA's Andy Katkin replied, "You got it Mike." We're as confused as you are, but this other comment by Katkin may provide some insight. "Shank 2 isn't just a reboot of Shank," Katkin wrote, "it's an entirely new game." Klei Entertainment's Jamie Cheng said, "What we did was rip the game apart and reconstruct it to allow us to have more responsive controls and better graphics. We tore our combat system apart ... and created new controls to be able to use the enemies' weapons against themselves."
Klei also added an online co-op mode, a feature largely tacked onto the original, by way of a "prequel" level. "Instead of just giving another co-op campaign that you play once and never play again," Cheng explained, "we took the mechanics and created a new way of playing: multiplayer co-op survival mode." We don't know what that string of buzzwords means either, but we suspect we'll find out soon enough (horde mode, right?).
Shank 2 will be "available in early 2012," on the same digital distribution services as the original, including XBLA, PSN, and PC.

I think those "shanks" qualify as Squeenix swords at that size.

A sequel/reboot/rebuild/whatever is not 'new IP', EA.

I suppose it's new IP in that they liked it enough to continue it beyond a single game but aside from that misnomer I'm very happy that they're keeping it alive, the original game deserved a lot more attention than it got!

Good to know EA has absolutely no grasp of what the term "intellectual property" actually means.

I dunno... I thought the controls were pretty solid in the first one.

Not that I didn't enjoy the Shank demo, but if we're going to use this definition of IP, I'd have preferred that they have announced the new IP of Mirror's Edge 2

I bought the first Shank when it came out. Loved it for about an hour or two. . . Then it got pretty boring. Hopefully this one improves on the bore part.

I was in the same boat. I played the demo and thought "This seems pretty cool and I'd like to progress a bit further in the story to see what happens." Little did I know that the story was garbage and by spamming my pistols constantly I could kill 75% of my enemies before they even showed up on-screen.
Even discounted to $10 or whatever I got it at still wasn't worth it for Shank.

Got the first one on sale yesterday. A lot of people complain that the game gets old fast and stuff, which is something I've learned that usually can be countered if the player starts a game on the hard difficulty setting right from the beginning.
We'll see.
We'll see.

Shank 1 looked cool, Shank 2, looks better, the "it's an entirely new game." is obvious hence the "2",
but I wanted to slap Andy Katkin when he said that it´s a new IP. Oh, please, it´s the same genre, the same style, the same title with a 2... just.. just be quiet...
Changing the definition of words, again?
I feel bad enough knowing that I live on a world where "Castle Wolfenstein 3D 3D" is a title that people would understand it´s meaning.
