European trademark suggests Yakuza: Of the End coming to the west as 'Yakuza: Dead Souls'

Sega's Daisuke Sato hinted to us during TGS that Sega might be thinking about localizing Yakuza: Of the End. We now have another hint in the form of a European trademark. Just yesterday, Sega filed "Yakuza: Dead Souls," a better, more natural-sounding potential subtitle than "Of the End."

There are a few other unlocalized Yakuza projects -- Yakuza Kenzan, the PSP Black Panther and its sequel, and a mobile game for GREE -- but "Dead Souls" is a more fitting name for the zombie shooter Of the End than for any of those, and thus the most likely use of the "Dead Souls" name. We're checking with Sega, in the hope that it'll confirm the transplant of a zombie-filled Tokyo to America and Europe.

Yea, admittedly it sounds a little Engrish in a way, but then again it depends how you read it. Yakuza of the End doesn't sound too bad. Since it's kinda like Yakuza of the end of the world. Dead Souls just sounds very generic and kinda lame. Plus, we already got Demon's Souls and Dark Souls.

@barrit I don't see how there'd be confusion between a Yakuza game and the Demon's/Dark souls games. Not even to the uninformed consumer.

Dead Souls sounds fine to me...to each his own I guess

@barrit I prefer "of the end" as well. Too much "dead" and "souls" in recent game titles.

It's actually a totally new Yakuza game based on the unfinished works of Nikolai Gogol.

Not bad, but they could just call it "Yakuza vs Zombies" and the game would sell like hotcakes in the Western markets. We just love killin' zombs!

This is excellent news! I'm actually right in the middle of Yakuza 2, so hearing this makes me all the more excited knowing that I have another game in the series to look forward to!

Im happy that they seemingly decided on a different subtitle, but calling this "Dead Souls" while being a Demon's/Dark Souls fan is a little weird

Of the End sounds like Engrish, or alternatively, like someone wanted a fancy name for yet another game about shoehorned-in zombies. Probably both.

Dead Souls is terribly generic and boring. Plus some are going to confuse it for Dark Souls.

Both are pretty bad and another title would be an improvement.

@Mehbah how would anyone confuse Yakuza for Dark Souls?

I hope that Yakuza dead souls bring more attention to the franchise since it has zombie.

@bargaingamer I hope they do something w/the controls cuz after playing the Japanese demo I am not feeling em.

I liked Of the End for its ridiculousness.

I'll probably buy it, but I REALLY wanted Kenzan.
