Gears of War 3 campaign DLC will focus on different cast
50
We know to expect the voice of Aisha Tyler in upcoming Gears of War 3 campaign DLC, but the rest of the cast remains a mystery. Posting in a NeoGAF thread, designer Cliff Bleszinski shared some additional details, explaining that the story won't be focused on the game's core cast.
And though it won't be based on the Gears of War graphic novels either, former Stranded-turned-COG Michael Barrick will appear. "No, it won't be the graphic novel, but it will have all new campaign content that doesn't have Marcus, Dom, Cole and Baird in it," Bleszinski wrote. "Expect Barrick and more..."
We're assuming Aisha Tyler won't be the one playing Barrick.

If Aisha Tyler is in it, how about getting Jon Benjamin, Chris Parnell, and Judy Greer to round out the team? Add in Jessica Walter as Col. Hoffman's mom, and I'd buy it at a high price.

I'm hoping Aisha will be playing Archer's Lana Kane in the campaign DLC. Every time she takes down a grub, she can let out a "Nnnope."

They should hand out the GOTY award to Gears 3, no other game will top this game this year!

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed GoW3. But with all of the amazing games coming out in the next few months, it's hard for me to imagine a grey-brown roidrage shooter coming out on top.
Skyrim and Rage and Arkham City and Battlefield 3 and Deus Ex:HR would like to have a talk with you about that GotY business

@(Unverified) Gears 3 is fun but it ain't GotY. That's like saying The Expendables should receive an Oscar for best picture.
Gears deserves an 8 out of 10. Anything above that and the reviewer isn't being honest with themselves.

grey-brown roidrage shooter and then you list Rage....
I'll give you the point that there's tons of games coming out that might, or will likely beat it, but Rage will probably be similarly grey-brown from it's nuclear fallout styled landscapes. I think if iD does it right, Rage will probably win, but since only one of the games is out right now, who can tell?

I suppose, I mean it has "rage" in the title. Which is pretty much "roidrage", right?
It is impossible to judge the "bro"-ness of RAGE before it releases, but at least iD is utilizing blue in their color palette, from screenshots I've seen.
I guess I was referring more to the stereotypical characters that Epic is known for, thick necked muscle men who drip testosterone and machismo, and thrust their crotches in alien faces.
At least I'm anticipating RAGE will not have any face to crotch thrusting of aliens.

I don't think you played Gears 3. You might say that about the previous game, but this one is most definitely not 'grey-brown'.

I think what would be great would be to play as Carmine. Throughout the last few acts I was wondering what the hell had happened to him, if I had mistaken a regular cog death for his own. Then he comes back as a badass in a helicopter. Where the hell did that come from? Show me, Epic!

(SPOILER WARNING)
Agreed, I mistook him for dead when the lambent berserker spawned.
I kind of figured the DLC would include the scenario for how the hell Cole/Baird got the navy involved, and another DLC pack involving Griffin since they kind of left that open / unfinished. They hinted at another meeting with him, but obviously that never happened. But now they're saying it's going to be an entirely new cast?
Here's to hoping the DLC doesn't become an expansion, then become a next year "Gears 3.5" ala Halo ODST. I have my fears though.

I agree! Carmine's story would be great. After the first part of the game, they leave his story up in the air until the end.

Am I the only one who thought that Baird sounded more like John DiMaggio than Marcus? Had me fooled until I finally looked up the voice cast, and was completely shocked that DiMaggio really voiced Marcus, and someone I'd never heard of voiced Baird. Seriously, I used Baird in MP because I thought it was hilarious he sounded so much like Bender.

That's why he's a voice actor, because he can do various voices that all sound different. Not everyone is Nolan North who just talks, most actually make their character (like Billy West doing Fry, Zap Branigan, Prof Farnsworth, and Zoidberg).
Dunno though, Marcus always sounded like "bad ass Bender" to me. Baird is just written like Bender (being a smart ass), the voice never sounded like him to me though.

I really hope the include Alex Brand. That'd make me happy. I also hope some of the other cast members have the balls to call her "foxy".

@DaRabidDuckie I hope she is in it as well. This will be an instant buy as soon as they include her character in any capacity. I was really surprised she wasn't at least an unlockable MP skin. She's one of the only Gears characters who actually had a very well written story.

Look Nolan North up on IMDb, he's got a pretty vast range. His Nathan Drake just got absurdly overused in games a few years back so that particular voice kind of got attached to his name. You know he be playing the Penguin in Batman: AC?

I'm actually somewhat surprised at this. I was thinking that the first DLC would feature Baird and Cole's trip to go find the reinforcements while Marcus and co. obtain the sub.

Can't wait. My buddy and I just beat the game on Hardcore last night. After banging our heads against the wall with just he and I, and the 2 AI playing, we were getting no where. He decided to open the game to the public and when a 9 yr. old and his 5 yr. old brother joined, I thought we were in trouble. But we beat it. That's right. Two kids below the age of ten were more helpful than our AI brethren.

I beat the game on HC last night with just the AI helping me out, and to be honest they did better than I did.
Baird revived me like 7 times in that last battle.

I like this idea. When your universe achieves that "critical mass" that it becomes more than the sum of its stars, then you can investigate the nooks and crannies of side characters. As much as I like Marcus, Dom, Cole, and Baird, there are other stories to tell, and different characters give you practically a carte blanche to tell it.
I'm tuned in.

Would this new team be an introduction of sorts or way to establish a whole new Gears of War series?

This is a brilliant idea - almost enough to convince me of purchasing the Seasons Pass. We've had three awesome adventures with Fenix and crew - time to give someone else the spotlight, albeit in a DLC form. This would also expand to the multiplayer component by inevitably adding new characters to choose from and (hopefully) new weapons.
My fingers are tightly crossed that of the 4 promised DLC packs within the next year - at least 2 are dedicated to adding single player/co-op campaign. Maybe the first campaign add-on will take place with a new crew just before the events of Gears 3 and the second pack could follow the same crew during the events of Gears 3.
The other two packs would be multiplayer DLC.

I have to say I was actually a little disappointed with the campaign. Yes, it was good fun, but it wasn't satisfying. Spoilers follow:
We find out Adam Fenix new about the Locust before E-Day, but where did they come from? I was expecting it to tie in to the New Hope Research facility, I wanted to find out what all the research collectibles about the girl called Ruth were about. I expected her to turn out to be the Locust Queen, and that scientists created the Locust some how... but nothing. I was hoping for a nice solid ending that wrapped up all the niggling questions.
Then the last boss fight was pretty dull as well, just the same attack methods for 5 waves. All you had to do was stand behind the pillar and switch between your lancer/HoD with occasional trips for ammo.
I'm probably being too picky, but I've always been into Gears mainly for the campaign, and I felt it didn't really deliver for me in the end :(

Yup, disappointed it didn't answer the big questions about the Locusts. MAybe the DLC will address them? Baird even asks at one point "Why does the Queen look human?" and Adam Fenix told him to STFU. (more or less).
But there was also that data disc that Baird was given... so there is still hope for answers in DLC.

Out-freaking-standing! Just bought the Season Pass then hopped online to check what the DLC might include. Not only am I pumped to have new campaign content, maps and skins, but now Aisha Tyler is gonna be a COG?! Awesomesauce. If they end up giving her character up as a new skin to play in MP, I know who I'll be using to finish getting my Battle Mistress Onyx Medal with. -After executing a kantus via lancer chainsaw bayonet, the hysterical laughter of Aisha Tyler is heard, followed closely by a single syllable- "Nnnnnnooooooope!"
