Get Sonic Generations for cheap now (before it drops in price a week after launch)

It's as simple as that: both Toys R Us and Amazon are discounting Sonic Generations pre-orders prior to the game's launch on November 1. For $37.49, you snag either the Xbox 360 or PS3 version at Toys R Us; Amazon is only offering the PS3 version, oddly enough.

Of course, this sale is a dangerous proposition: on the one hand, you can get a game when it launches for pretty darn cheap. On the other hand, the nature of the marketplace dictates said game will fall in price soon after it launches. So is this worth pouncing on now or should one wait it out? Decisions, decisions ...

says the guy with a Quake 1 icon... .loved that game but even by the standards of its release it was ugly as hell to look at. And obviously graphics mean nothing when good gameplay is involved.

I really want this game, only for the CE stuff in EU/AU though, but it comes out roughly $115 USD (plus shipping). Hopefully the game turns out good though. Sonic Colors was actually pretty good.

@def PD Did you find a retailer selling the CE that will ship to the US? The only place I could find that was offering it for pre-orders online was amazon.co.uk and they won't ship into amazon.com territory.

I've ordered from Mighty Ape before (for the Scarlborough Fair Bayonetta). It took almost 2 weeks for it to be delivered, but totally worth it.

I want the 3DS version. The stereoscopic 3D in the 360 demo was terrible. Too much ghosting and a lot of jaggies.

@ItsameMatt03 Ghosting especially. I've heard some people didn't notice this (maybe they have TVs with better refresh rates), but for me the demo blurred while moving to the point where it was impossible to control when moving fast, kind of like an old, old Game Boy game. Which is a shame, because gameplay-wise the game was just fine.

I've got a plasma 3D TV, but I have yet to have much issues with ghosting with any of my 3D blu-rays. I think the Sonic demo was just poorly converted. Maybe the full game will be fine.

Getting this and I'm importing the Collector's just so i can say i have it.

Yeah, i find it strange that Sonic games, good or bad, always quickly drop in price.

It's a Sonic game. The danger isn't from the price going down more. The danger is from the game sucking balls.

I'm not touching this until some reviews convince me otherwise. I love Sonic, but he's been dead to me since the late 90s.

That danger exists for every game you preorder, not just for Sonic games.
And you let reviewers convice you to buy a game or not? How sad. I use demos and gameplay videos for that.

No, I'm with greyseal on this one. There is a different level of danger between a regular pre-order and a Sonic pre-order. I mean, come on, how can you just group them all together like that?

Danger exists for any preorder, but a developer's history certainly helps whittle down the odds of getting screwed. I'll be thrilled if Generations turns out to be a great game. Hell, at this point I'll settle for a good game.

As for knee-jerk responses, your "reviews suck" bandwagon is getting tired. Reviews help narrow a very large (and very expensive) playing field. Demos are great, but I don't have time to demo every game released. Can I assume you tried the demo for the last Hannah Montana game just to make sure it didn't suck like all the reviews said? Or did you just give reviewers the benefit of the doubt that time?

This series has been a mess for over a decade. If you're enjoying them, then more power to you. But there's a good reason why most people don't, and it has nothing to do with corruption in the game review media.

@greyseal I agree. I like a deal as much as the next guy, but the odds of this game failing to deliver are pretty high. There are also too many other great games coming out soon. I'll pre-order those, and if reviews are favorable, I'll pick this up when it's on sale again.

I've learned the hard way you should NEVER preorder a Sonic game anymore. It looks great! So did Sonic 2006.

I hope this is a fantastic game, but we'll need a couple reviews.

After sonic colors, I believe in 3d sonic titles again.

@Basevi Colors definitely surprised me on how good it was, this one looks to be even better, maybe they got the guy who did Chris Redfield to voice Sonic again, he wasn't too bad.

But no one will ever hold a candle to Jaleel White from the old cartoons.

I'll hold off. For one, the 360 is my preffered platform, so I'd rather wait until amazon has it for cheaper.

Second, It's a sonic game. The more I see of it the more hopeful I am that it will be a good sonic game, but I've been burned too many times before. I will remain cautiously optimistic until the game is actually out.

Though the demo was quite enjoyable.

@CaramelZappa I suspect the 360 price will similarly drop as well. But in all honesty, after the surprise goodness of Colors, I actually preordered this one when I got a chance, I have faith in it. Besides, even if the modern Sonic levels aren't up to snuff for you, the classic ones should.

As much as I like this price point, I would gladly pay for the Collector's Edition. I just want Sega to release it in NA, pleeeeeeeaaaaase? :(

Despite Colors being an enjoyable title, I'm gonna go through Gamefly and approach Generations with caution.

Yeah I just bought sonic rush at gamestop for $10 and it's pretty good. Didn't expect it to be so cheap
