Just a shame this wasn't developed for WiiU. Imagine an HD Zelda at launch.

Delaying this game to launch it with the WiiU would have been a really bad move. Not only would it upset all the fans, but there would be nothing to prop up the Wii this holiday season at all. People are really stoked for this game and another delay would have just sucked all the wind out of Nintendo's sails. They have a new Zelda game for the Wii and two big games - Mario kart and Mario Land - coming out for the 3DS. After a rough year, this is a pretty strong way to close it out.

They need more developers to get onboard with WM+ before the WiiU. A way to get more developers onboard is for a major game to need WM+.
Also a Wii specific Zelda was needed and not just a GCN port.

Can Zelda and Link just hook up already? I really hate it when a girl is just a tease. I hope that when and if they "do it", he just puts in the tip.
Yeah, I went there.

That makes sense. I'm just thinking I hope it's not 5 years before we see a proper HD Zelda on WiiU. It's just that Skyward Sword seems to be coming along nicely and graphically speaking it would be gorgeous in 1080p.
They still have a bit of time before WiiU drops (next holiday isn't it?) and I hope they have an ace in the hole. I'd like to see one of their more epic type of franchises (Zelda or Metroid) done in a more cinematic way with proper voice acting, orchestral score, leveling and sweet HD visuals. It's going to suck if we have to wait until the tail end of WiiU's lifespan for that.
Maybe they could do an HD remastered version for WiiU at launch. You can still use the WiiMote I believe. Something like the God of War / Sotc Ico / MGS compilations.
I was kind of iffy and unexcited about SS until this new media. Seems like big strides have been made since that E3 demonstration where the game didn't work because of wireless interference.
Contrary to popular belief I like Nintendo and want to see them exceed. I just would like for them to have a division within the company that focused on a more narrative driven cinematic experience. WiiU is a great opportunity to bridge the gap and placate all subset of gamers.

No one wants to wait that long, but Zelda games are notoriously delayed. The upside is that the delays are for a good reason, since every Zelda game that comes out is fantastic.
I know that demo at E3 wasn't an actual game, but it seems like they already know what direction they want to take as far as the look of the game goes, and you know they have been thinking of ways to use the new controller and what not for a long time now. If the WiiU comes out in the fall of 2012, it would be nice to see a new Zelda game on there in time for the holidays in 2013, but that's probably asking a lot.

iirc (could be wrong) in theory Wii U was going to drop in the first half of next year, but if it hasn't been delayed already it surely will be.
Delaying this to make it into a half-arsed port to a brand new system would be a bad idea :) We will probably have to deal with not having a new Zelda game until several years into the life of Wii U; but hopefully they'll have a Mario game reasonably soon after launch instead...
I decided not to watch any more media, I'll save it until I play the game now. The previous trailers looked awesome already.

You are incorrect. I was definitely pumped for those games to come out - hey, I just got my 3DS earlier this year and it's no secret that there's not much to play, so it's pretty exciting to get some top quality games for it - but those are nowhere near how I feel about Skyward Sword.

I'm really warming up to the art style. It's still no Wind Waker, but that plasticine feel I had at the start has very much been replaced by a charming story book illustration. Looks good.

The environments in this aren't terrible and I am sure it will be great as for gameplay, but these character designs are the absolute most terrible I've ever seen in a game I actually care about. Whoever modeled the characters here are ridiculous and it is not good in any aspect whatsoever. Overall just terrible. It's hard not to cringe when looking at a Michael Jackson-esque boss that even dances basically... And what is up with their lips in this game? Just awful. (as I said, though.... gameplay wise and environment wise, it's probably going to be good)

Well I was being glib so no counter argument was necessary but here it is:
The characters look fantastic - stylized yet immediately recognizable as characters within the Zelda universe and as a Japanese style character design. And Miyamoto has always said he envisioned a storybook style for LOZ and this is the perfect blend of the visuals of WW and TP.
And this guy is complaining about the lips? Really? And the MJ-esque character - what the hell is he even talking about with no context to that scene?
To each his own but I think the overwhelming impression is that this game looks gorgeous - and the characters are not that much of a departure from what we;ve seen before aside from the cel shading.
Some people are just impossible to please and if they could just go away that would be great.

I want to agree with Belial cause I know anyone who questions anything about the game get totaly dumped on. Not ALL the models are terrible but alot of them are just a huge turn-off. They look interesting and creative and fit into the whole world and everything but...the guys all look kind of prissy and frilly and uh...how else can I dance around this?...'flamboyant' but not in a cool way? Maybe Girahim has kind of a Marylin Manson vibe which kind of works but the rest just look like pre-op transexualls. Even the the bully character Groose looks like a drag-queen.
Before the overly sensitive super-fans dump on that, I don't think it's a problem for Zelda fans who already love the series. I don't think it's the end of the world. But I just think the characters designs are gonna make it harder to get new guys who are skeptical of Nintendo's core gamer cred
to give Zelda a chance and realize how cool Zelda games are. The flamboyant design just doesn't translate well for the north american audience, I think it's Japanese thing that is totally lost in translation and isn't going to help the series at all.
One more thing...just because you think no one should ever complain about a single thing in Zelda doesn't mean your a bigger fan.

@Nolan North Unfortunately, being composed of primarily bosonic and fermionic matter, I must accelerate first to the speed of light which would give me infinite inertia at that time.

I'm still getting this game Day One.
(Need to find way to get money fast, corner?)
My games for November, hopefully, are Super Mario Land 3D and Skyward Sword. Assassin's Creed Revelations is going to be delayed so, won't have to worry about that for a while.
$70 + $40 = $110. Anyone want to buy some entertainment ;) for $110?

I'm pretty much a 360/ps3 guy right now; Gears, Uncharted, Battlefield, Mass Effect, Deus Ex are some of my faves and I have no shortage of criticism of Nintendo.
Having said that, when they get it right they really get it right. To this day Wind Waker (my first Zelda game tho I've been gaming since the 2600) is one of my most memorable gaming experiences, followed by the original Metroid Prime.
I loved Twilight Princess and tho I had some concerns this would be 'more of the same' who am I kidding? 'More of the same' of a console Zelda title is better than 99% of everything else out there - and word is this will have quite a bit more variety wrapped in a 50 hr + campaign.
I've always said it: Nintendo for me is like that girlfriend you keep going back to; you know she'll break your heart sometimes but man can she make you feel good.
I'm in.
