If a new F-Zero turns into a awesome FPS, should it still be called F-Zero?

As long as it has the same story or at least a story that compliments the original in the same world as the old F-Zero I don't see why not.

Forget F-Zero and tell me that it would make sense if I told you "I´m gonna play chess online" and that by Chess, I was talking about... a FPS

Forget the story. It just doesn´t makes sense.

But, from a marketing perspective, if I turned Batman into a Pink Rabbit, and it selles gazillions of dollars because the kids nowadays are fond of pink bunnies, and the fans of batman would buy anything with batman on it´s title, I would be totally right.

So, congrats. No more triple A strategy games besides Starcraft on the market. Few people buy it anyways, compared to FPS.

Shadowrun, Syndicate, Deus Ex. Coming up next, Snatcher - another cyberpunk adventure title turned into a FPS.

(BTW, I´m gonna play it. I luuuv FPS. Who cares for variety anyways.)

Yes it'd be F-Zero: New Revolution or Tetris: Modern Warfare..

Quit making problems where there are none. Did you complain this much when the newest generations of Fallout released and were fantastic?

Makes perfect sense.

Yes I know exactly what I said. Do you have any idea how ridiculous your statements are?

It's a franchised name, that's all these days. Why can't one franchise be spread out over different genres, is my point. And it's a perfectly valid one.

It should have a subtitle if it's not primarily a racer but follows similar story elements and occurs in the same universe. Something like:

F-Zero: Does Captain Falcon need to choke a bitch

There. Problem solved.

@eat it Most people who play games don't stay as informed as we do. Someone who played the original could buy this game thinking it will be the same style and end up very disappointed. Of course that's the only reason it bares the title of the original. To trick people who would have no interest otherwise, to pay attention to it. It's a dishonest business practice, using brand recognition to sell people things they would not otherwise want. The title should at least in someway reflect it is not going to be similar to the original. For example: Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, made it very clear it was not going to be set in WW2. No one could be mistaken about that.

Honestly, even with all this back & forth we're all doing (myself included)... Who knows how many people are spending a ton of hours developing something that's (hopefully) passionate to them. The least we could do is give the game a chance, regardless of what directions it takes the franchise.

Fun game = fun game.

If Starbreeze pulls this off, I wouldn't object to them turning Mario into an RPG, Halo into an RTS, Final Fantasy into a tactics game, Warcraft into an MMO, or Duke Nukem into an FPS...

In before the haters: I loved the original Syndicate, and I am totally okay with this.

I don't necessarily want another isometric strategy game because, frankly, that's already been done and it was perfect! I have no problem with them taking chances and putting the original idea through a different lens.

Would I prefer it to be more open-worldly and strategic, closer to Deus Ex? Yeah. But I'm going into this one optimistic because I can't wait to see what such a kickass studio is doing with one of my favorite franchises that can finally get the crazy-realistic take it's deserved.

And who knows, maybe they're just not showing some of that stuff because it doesn't fit into a Skillrex-scored trailer.

Hahahahaha you honestly just used the argument "it's been done" in this case where they turned the game into a shooter? Hahahahahahaha oh wow.

Talk about the been donest of been dones in the history of been dones. The game industry pukes out fifteen identical shooty gun shooters every single day.

The fact that this game, which was of a genre that's hardly represented anymore and would've been a breath of fresh air in today's climate, has been turned into (guess what guys?) a gun shooting shooty game, feels like goddamn nigh on intentional trolling. It's a horrible, soulless move from a board of directors who don't give a crap about games and just want to do what the other guy is doing ("until you get their numbers).

Oh, for the record: I've never played the original Syndicate. No rose tinted glasses here. But I might have played this if it hadn't been crammed into a genre we're already freaking drowning in, to put it MILDLY.

But they're not experimenting! They're reverting to the status quo!

It's like if there were 23 mcdonalds restaurants in town, and one great italian restaurant, and then they decided to turn that restaurant into a mcdonalds also. Regardless of whether you like mcd's or not, that's not experimenting. Or anything resembling anything positive. It's horrific.

Not the same people as The Darkness or Butcher Bay. The current team has made literally nothing to date. I sure love how psyched people are getting over a game that is crapping on it's heritage, being made by people we know nothing about, because they happen to have the developer name of a group that didn't suck.

You're implying that this is gonna be such a great shooter compared to everything else, that it will negate the problem of being the 156th shooter this week (and sacrificing a unique game in favor of this). Well, that's going to be extremely unlikely considering what's out there.

Cyberpunk genre usually looks the same across all platforms. If you played Deus Ex and THEN read Neuromancer, you'd probably picture Adam Jensen the whole time.

(virginity taken!) - ahh, that's better than a First.

But, yeah, this looks promising. I love Starbreeze games. I'm glad to see some blues and greens and other tones in the trailer. That screnshot up top had me worried we'd be seeing another dystopian future blanketed in dingy yellow-brown-gold.
And yeah, Deus Ex was great (I've played through it twice), so I would welcome another entry into the hyper-tech corporate espionage genre.

1) Graphics do not make a game good.
2) FO3 is basically Fallout with a new coat of paint. It looks like an FPS, but still applies almost all the mechanics used in the first game. This is taking those mechanics, and throwing them out the window to try and create a hybrid between Deus Ex and Modern Warfare.

1. Honestly, regardless of everything we all commented about, would thenoriginal gameplay hold up in today's gaming world? I posted below that I'm now itching to play the original games, but that's mostly for nostalgic entertainment. I'm not fully convienced that style game would be entertaining enough in the fast paced action oriented gaming world we now live in (from a sale point anyway, I'm sure the niche crowd would certainly purchase it but I can't believe that would suffice for the cost of game development these days.)
2. Your name is awesome! =)

While this doesn't apply to The Syndicate (it wasn't an extremely faced paced game originally) many games (fps especially) actually move more SLOWLY than older ones. "Modern Shooter ##" usually involves slower movement and shooting than games like Quake, UT, the original Deus Ex, and more recently CS:S.

First, forgive me for not being a PC gamer 11 years ago and thus knowing about the original Deus Ex. Dont get me wrong, I really got into the latest one. I am just saying that with the tidal wave of amazing games coming out in the next six months, I will have moved on from DX.

Also, I know this game's conceits will be quite different, however the similarities are like a lot of games that are designed within the same relative time periods. Designers tend to tap into the current zeitgeist of gaming.
