On its own, looks cool. Called Syndicate, cashing in on old school recognition of a beloved 486 game, while having very little to do with it otherwise (they're both in the future and have to do with corporate warfare?), lame. Same sentiment as XCOM.

This is possibly the most intelligent post in the whole article.

Do people not realize if this didn't have the Syndicate name, the bitching about Syndicate would not be happening, and it's just be taken as a new game that shares cyberpunk aesthetics? I mean seriously, if the chip punishing you is the only aspect they retained from the original, I'm wagering most people wouldn't of even realized it was taking that from Syndicate if not for the name.

er. Gauss Gun. Loved that thing in the original. Alas, not even a squad like x-com

I never played the original, but have to admit this does look p cool. I really liked the Darkness too, so I trust that it's in good hands with the devs.

As for the changes, people need to stop crying. Life goes on; the times, they are a changing. It's the same thing with X-Com, which I also think looks like it will turn out p good.

It's frankly amusing to watch someone talk about "change" when we're talking about yet another shooter.

Wow this game looks really cool. I might actually pick this up instead of renting. That is hoping there is online play of course.

I'm a liberal as far as politics goes, but I hold conservative values when it comes to games. The industry seems to love to totally destroy the original concept of franchises, thus abandoning the fans. Instead, they should make neat deviations and improvements. Changing the game drastically just invites stupidity, no matter how you spin it.

I don't need another isometric Syndicate (to be honest, I'm not sure that kind of thing would even translate to modern gaming, at least with my memories of it), however I also don't need a FPS Syndicate either.

Call me when they make one with some RPG elements or something

All this debate really makes me wanna play the original titles again. Anyone know where I can download (preferably legally) Syndicate or Syndicate Wars?

Was hoping GoG.com had 'em but no dice.

I dunno if you've played any of Starbreeze's previous games, Arthur, but extremely brutal and grotesque violence is kind of a recurring theme for them. Not that I especially mind, since they're a hell of a lot less callous than, say, Uncharted.

Just curious how Uncharted is callous. Not sure what mean by that.

I think he's talking about how Nathan Drake literally murders hundreds of people and doesn't even bat an eye. Graphic violence at least emphasizes the fact that it is, in fact, violence. If you actually think about what happens in the Uncharted games they're practically parodies of themselves.

That said, they're still fun as hell.

That's most games these days. My sister's 4 year old comes to visit and ask to play my games and I'm just like uhh all my games revolve around death and murder. Sorry!

Also, dear butthurt PC gamers: if you dislike this game so much, could you please just pretend it doesn't exist and shut the hell up?? Some of us actually want to talk about the actual game without seeing every conversation derailed by people bitching interminably about how it's an FPS.

I think it looks cool, but (like many others) the use of the Syndicate brand annoys me.
The people who do recognize the brand (and I'm betting there there isn't a thriving community of people who do) remember it as a totally different genre. The brand gains this game nothing.

And frankly, it looks great. I'm not sure why they don't trust it enough to give it it's own franchise.

@Tel Prydain

Although I have no problem using the same franchise name for different genres, I think that's a great question as to why they don't think it'll hold up on it's own without the Syndicate brand behind it.

Unless of course the story is directly derived from the original & sequel. Then it makes total sense to me.

Not going to lie, Joe The Average Gamer probably couldn't tell the difference between this and Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

Having said that, I happen to think it looks awesome. Sometimes I think it's a good thing that I haven't played a lot of older games because reboots and sequels don't upset me when they're not like the originals.

"Starbreeze's Syndicate is everything a particular group of PC gamers fears it is.

It's not isometric. It's not particularly focused on slow, methodical strategy. And you have direct control over your character, a departure from the CEO-using-mindless-drones-as-chess-pieces schtick of the original game. So for some of you, the fight's already lost. You can stop reading now."

Aw man, thanks Aruthur I love when the things I really enjoyed as a kid are dismissed off hand, and implied that if I disagree I don't matter!

Bang up job!

Looks cool. If it plays like a really good FPS, then I'm fine with it.

Honestly, the classic kind of Syndicate game has no place on modern consoles. They're not suited to it. It would, however, be a perfect fit on the PC or iPad. Plus, you could easily accomplish that sort of title on an indie budget.

I would absolutely love to play a title similar to classic Syndicate on the go.

Never played the original game so I guess no loss to me than. It's similar to how I never played Fallout until the third one but enjoyed it still. So, point being, ignorance is bliss

The only slow strategy I remember from the original was making sure all the civilians were lined up neatly so I could kill them all with one shot of the laser rifle, I would hardly call the original an RTS, it was an isometric shooter at it's core.
