The jump-in jump-out co-op seems pretty cool as a concept, but I'm guessing they didn't have it fully implemented in this demo since the other player just kind of disappeared after he left the room.
Also, I know it's a work in progress, but that acid blood just looks god-awful and doesn't seem to be causing any damage to the player.

They said in an interview that they were writing to be that since the blast was underground it was contained there and as such the surface remained in tact.
This is of course nonsense as you see the big explosion from the sky. I'd rather they just did it somewhere else but I guess I'll just get over it.

Sadly , that isn't looking any better than the recent Aliens Vs. Predator. Disappointing.

@Jimmyjames : Which is not necessarily a bad thing . AVP was a pretty awesome game for what it was worth. A little too short, but it satisfied the fix. I hear what you are saying though. Seems more like a port of AVP than anything else. I'm still gonna play the bejabbers out of it cause I'm a fan of the movie.
Also, I think the Wii U version will probably have a cooler experience with the controller and all.

Agreed. I love the AVP game that everyone seemed to hate. Connection issues and a few balance issues (my god the predater, the poor marines don't stand a chance. At least the aliens had their speed) it was a great game based around teamwork.
I mean it took a bit to get used too, and you really needed to practice to get the skills down, but once you got in the groove it fulfilled all of my fantasies for the AVP series.
It was fun as a marine to pretend not to notice the alien coming up behind me, then at the last minute turn, block his attack, then blast the hell out of him. Then as an alien to get the drop on that damn predator that was dominating a few minutes before. The predator was also fun, but I felt bad playing as him, most of the weapons being one hit kills and all.
Overall though, not many experiences like it.

I too loved the AvP game. I think this demo of Colonial Marines looks more interesting so far too. Just think how much better this one can be due to longer development time (a long ass time it seems) as well as the fact they have all the specific details of the masterpiece of sci-fi/action/horror cinema AL()ENS to draw from, as well as the fact they don't have to balance the playstyles of marines, and aliens, and predators. I think this will be an improvement on AvP.

I really liked it too and was playing it quite a bit the previous week.
Though I do have to say that the xenomorphs' acid blood looked much, much better in that game than it did in this preview. Hopefully it's something they'll put some more work into before launch.

While I view Aliens: Colonial Marines as the main course, I will be eating tons of the biomechanically infused retro-goodness appetizer that will be Aliens Infestation.

Bit hard to care when Pitchford says 'I'm *really* excited!' after his professed near orgasmic excitement for Duke Nukem Forever. Lying/being a bit dumb might help to shift a few copies of a pile of crap like Nukem (not his fault it stank btw, but he still hyped the ass off it), but in the long run it hurts credibility.
He's already become 'that guy' who gets too excited over nothing, like Peter Molyneux.

Not nearly as scary or intense as I thought it would be.

So I guess Hadley's Hope was built with the intent to survive a 40-megaton nuclear explosion? :o/

I've yet to see an Aliens game that comes close to being true survival horror.
Maybe it's that too much the industry is built around shooters these days.
Either way, suddenly care about as much as his mono-tone expression "now that's what you call a closer encounter" calls for: not at all.

Feels kinda mechanical and by the numbers. A lot of the guys getting jumped by aliens felt so obviously scripted they seemed like dummies in a carnival haunted house, And the ghosted turret seemed to imply you could only place it at that spot, which just ties into the scripted feel and reduces tension. Obviously lots of attention has been paid to the surface details, pulse rifles, shoulder lights, etc, but it lacked any real oomph for me. I'll rent it just to run around in that world, but that's all I expect at this point.

A lot of things I liked, the look, the atmosphere, but I have to agree on some of the points made here. The sounds were, for the most part, accurate, except for the turrets and the absence of that occasional Alien scream when they die. No melee attacks of your own, not iron sights, no other gear shown besides primary/secondary/motion tracker, no acid damage. and no real damage taken during this whole scripted sequence.

I admit it, I geeked out a bit at the attention to detail regarding the IP. Looking forward to this, please, please be good.

Seems the comment system is farked here on Joystiq, so while my other gushing "I love Aliens" post was eaten by this esteemed blog, I will just cut to the chase and say that this game is looking great so far.
I can't wait to blast some xenos with a virtual M41A Pulse Rifle whenever I can finally get my mitts on this game.

Looks like AVP3... which I enjoyed but this is so hyped to be good and looking at this, it seems to look kind of cool. I like Aliens and such but it doesn't look scary, crappy scripted events and Pitchords comments did NOT sell this game to me. Please make the final game actually like the movie.

Why does "Colonial Marines" make me think of guys in tri-cornered hats firing musket balls at aliens? Also, Gearbox + Sega is a strange combination.
