One Dota 2 fan wanted to win a beta key in a big way in Valve's recent photo contest -- like, really big. The rules stipulated entrants submit a photograph of themselves "holding a sign that reads 'Dota 2' and your 'PlayDotA.com Username' in any creative fashion," and that the image had to be larger than 600x400 px. So Steven Addison put his image on a billboard, because that's what sane people do to get beta keys.
Placing an ad on an electronic billboard in Addison's neighborhood normally costs $3,000. Addison and his friend wanted to use the billboard in a student film as well, and after Addison explained their situation, a kind Clear Channel man offered him a small amount of air time for free. We're very happy to hear that, because compared to the other submissions, even $20 seems like too much to have invested in this contest.
[Thanks, Barnz!]

@Viiral
Down voted because you didn't even read the article.
Overall, how much did the project cost you?
The shirts you see were made for us from a friend who can screen print. So we had to buy the black shirts, but the printing didn't cost us anything and the billboard cost us nothing. Opportunity cost was the biggest expense, haha. Though, I did spend 1.50 US Dollars for a soda used in the film...
You should really read the article before posting, because then you just look like a dumbass.

@Viiral I'm not sure you're ready to move onto Drama yet, we still have to work on your comprehension skills.

This dude is my hero. Bright enough to be able to work out a reasonable deal and get two birds with one stone! I hope his name used on the board is more visible in other pics though, for the contest's sake!

Hey, wait... doesn't the contest say he has to be holding the sign?

@AquaShibby3000
Maybe the picture is cropped too tight and he is holding on to the billboard at the bottom of the post.

@AquaShibby3000 No, you don't have to be literally holding a sign, they said if you can think of a clever way to show the title and your user name, you'll be OK.

I clicked on the link. I knew I shouldn't have, having read all the comments beforehand, but I still did it anyway. "How bad could it be?" I said to myself. Well apparently very bad, very bad indeed....
