DC Universe Online Facebook page teases fifth update 'soon' [update: how about now?]
7
DC Universe Online's official Facebook account has teased the fifth update for the popular console and PC MMO, hinting at new features and new characters to play with. The "Fate of the Fortress" update will include a new difficulty mode for the Hive Alert zone (with new loot to match), a duel feature for fighting friends, the ability to fight in the Batcave as yourself (rather than as the premade Iconic characters), and appearances from both Jor-El, Superman's dad, and the evil General Zod. We're not sure how that last one will be used, but best guess is that you'll have to /kneel before him.
That's just a little MMO humor for you there (very little). DCUO is scheduled to go free-to-play by the end of this month, and so presumably the update will drop sometime right around then. In fact, the official account comments on the Facebook page that "Update 5 is soon, F2P is Late October," so we may even see this new content out sooner than the changeover.

So how is DC Universe? I've tried Champions Online, but it felt...laggy or stuttery, didn't like the combat. I've since gone to City Of Heroes when it went F2P and so far i really like it. Definitely a nice home away from WoW when i need a break. I'll be trying DCUO when it goes F2P as well, but just curious how people feels it stacks up to CoH.

I'm also waiting for DCUO to go F2P and have played Champions and City of Heroes whilst waiting, but they were horribly disappointing. Because let's face it, while I can make my avatar look like Batman in Champions, it's just not the same as having the real Batman in a game. Also, City of Heroes felt more laggy than Champions to me. I played Champions for a good 20 hours, which is more than I put into most MMOs, because I'm not an MMO-goer. After 2 hours with City of Heroes, I quit and uninstalled it.
I dislike MMOs, since they're all basically fetch quest here, kill X of Y and the occasional boss + 100 hours of pointless grinding, but I am so pumped for DCUO. If it's anything like it looks, it's going to be amazing.

I am so glad I could see through Chris Kao's lame excuses/hype.
Didn't he get fired for sucking? Lol if so, I mean if you suck at SOE and someone notices, holy hell you must be REALLY bad at life!

DCUO was/is a great experience. I couldn't find time to fork over money every month for the amount of time I had for it. I hope it thrives as a F2P game.
