I was really worried Epic would release any dlc for Gears 3. Thankfully they already have about $100 worth of bullshit up. Stay classy Epic.

But thanks to the season pass, that $100 worth of DLC will only cost you 30. Stay classy, Epic!

@Fire Walk With Me Are you talking about the optional, non-gameplay effecting, cosmetic DLC for guns? People cry about everything these days.

Well technically, you are downloading content. So DLC is an appropriate term for it.

Uhhh that doesn't sound right. Season pass only saves you 33%, it does not knock it down too 33%. So you'd still be paying $66 for $100 worth of DLC, combine that with the fact that it cost 2400 MS points ($30) and you still spent 97 dollars. You would have to spend 100 dollars on DLC just to save 3 dollars. Unless I'm not looking at it right this entire thing reeks of moneygrubbing to the point of near scam.

The point is that these are things deliberately lock on disc even though they were finished, and you have to pay more money to unlock it. There used to be a time when you got all of the content that was finished at release and got expansions or actual DLC because they continued to work on the game to add things.

If you buy the season pass it doesn't mean the DLC becomes 33% cheaper for you to buy.

You get all the DLC for buying the season pass which works out to of cost you 33% less by buying the season pass then by buying them all separately.

Although I bought the Season Pass to save some on the DLC, I'm not exactly thrilled that some of these skins are already on the disc and I'm paying for the ability to use them. Hopefully the new maps weren't really on the disc, but if I see only a few Kb's or Mb's as opposed to a few hundred Mb's for this pack, I will be peeved.

@Ryguy226 The weapon skins will be on the disc. If they weren't people wouldnt be able to see them besides you so they arent trying to just rip you off they are just trying to get it to work.

@Guzzy2792 - I appreciate developers making it so that DLC I purchase works in games even with people who didn't buy it (I'm using 'I purchase' figuratively... I wouldn't be buying weapon skins in Gears) but at the same time, there are better ways to do that than selling content that's already on the disc.

I prefer the PGR/Forza way of doing it where they give away one car from each of their car packs to give people incentive to download compatibility packs.

I wonder how those upgrades will interact when playing with people that don't have the DLC. Will they be unusable for the whole group, or just the people that didn't buy it? I guess we'll see.

Given the proximity to the game's release, I bet these assets are on the disc somewhere. I can't imagine Epic pulling a "Mortal Kombat" on this one.

It will probably be like it is now. Friends or players without the DLC won't be able to purchase the Horde upgrades, but they will probably be able to use and repair them.

I'm inclined to think they were/are finishing the DLC between the time the game went 'gold' (about four weeks before release) and November 1. That's two months and I'm sure they aren't sitting on their arses for that duration.

I don't understand the love with Blood Drive. That map was terrible. If they disabled frag tagging on walls it'd be more enjoyable IMO. The remake looks pretty though.

Looks like it's probably a no-go for public versus.

Here's the actual press release (pay special attention to the last sentence):

"The three maps include "Blood Drive," based in the Jacinto Medical Plaza; "Rustlung," which takes place on a decommissioned battleship; and "Azura," which is set on an island resort with water gardens and lush foliage. All three maps can be played in Beast mode and private Versus matches as well as in Horde mode."

Lame that the firs DLC is more shit for Horde, I would've opted for the story mission DLC first to be quite honest. But that's just me.

@platinumrug Well yes and no. Yes there is more stuff for horde, but you do realize that the maps are for all multiplayer modes, so that also includes stuff for versus and Beast. It's the one thing that I loved about Horde from Gears 2 that's carried over to Gears 3, all the multiplayer maps could be used for horde as well and vice versa.

Plus, considering you are getting a few multi skins and weapon skins, as well as stuff for horde with the 3 maps for $10 as opposed to just the maps like they did last year with their DLC, they've at least sweetened the deal a bit.

Now if the maps were really on the disc, then we will have cause for concern.

ETA: The official release announcement says the maps will also be available in Beast Mode and Private Versus.

When CliffyB said that all the DLC was done AFTER the game was done I knew he was full of it. The problem is many people don't care. When someone is willing to give me $25 a piece for my 2 preorder DLC skins I know $10 for this won't phase them. Gears of War 3 is a great value in comparison to a lot of crap out there but I am tired of the nickel and dimming, Especially when it makes it that much more difficult in matchmaking for versus.

There's two months between the time the game was finished and when this is due for release. That's plenty of time to work on this DLC when I'm sure a lot of the art assets already exist on the disc.

It seems to me that a lot of the haters don't realise that a game is finished a month before release and not the day before. I'm sure a lot of the same haters are those who cry out for DLC then complain when it's "too expensive" and even when they offer a discount via a season pass. Well, guess what? It costs money to run a big studio and you're no obliged to buy the DLC, it's an option. Cut the guys some slack, they made a great game and don't deserve the bad reactions.

@Styli

I won't pass judgment on this particular DLC until it releases. If a lot of it is on the disc then yes I will be upset. The upgrades to the Horde mode do sound more like holding back content rather than enhancing it. The game went Gold on Aug 19 (one month) before release PLUS they had 6 months extra to polish the game because of the MS delay. 3 Characters and 3 Maps are the new content. In comparison to the whole game at $60 it would seem to me $10 is a lot for that.
